Day 4,388

The Miami Mishap

Gooood morning!
You watch our babes...

...we'll drive to Miami for what was supposed to be three total hours.
Jokes! It was six. And though we were mostly amused at how really nothing went as planned, Daddy picked up his new trailer and Mama got to see wild peacocks roaming the trees of South Miami while holding Papa's hand. I'll take it!

And they'll take any excuse to hang out with Miss Taylor :)

And to top it off, Uncle Jeremy came back and stayed the night with us!

Day 2,185

The Evacuation

My face when I heard the news that the Marlins were graciously inviting families to fly with the team out of Irma's way was a mixture of Amelia's joyous grin and that of both relief and shock in the most grateful of ways. We arrived to the field late last night and joined the other Fish families in our business casual dress under evacuation advisories, which ended up turning into mandatory orders for Miami Beach - where we currently live.

We loaded onto the bus - the five of us, and headed to a private airport tarmac at Miami International.

"Bubsy," as the kids and I like to call her, was telling me last night how thankful she was to be able to leave with Dada. She trusts me plenty, but something about a Category 5 hurricane with only one Mama for protection over three kids was making her feel uneasy and a little queasy. Can't say I blame her.

As we pulled up to the airplane, I was met with the reality of how kind this gesture truly was to us. This was actually happening. In each of our years with the Marlins, there's never been a trip that families were allowed to travel on. That's just been the rules we've grown accustomed to with this team, and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. But because the tradition of "no family travel" has been so engrained into us, to be afforded this opportunity to not only leave the state, but to leave it with our husbands was just such a grace.

Last night, Bearett wrote a note that said something like this:

"Dear Marlins,
Thank you for your willingness to keep us safe. We're so thankful we get to be with our Dada. Love, The Conleys."

He gave it to our travel secretary before boarding the plane.

Even at 1AM, our thanksgiving never subsided. Each of us is just so incredibly happy to be with Daddy and not alone in Florida on the eve of what could be extreme destruction to the only home this family knows.

Before falling asleep on our way to Atlanta, Bearett read Amelia the Bible and then the three of them prayed together - something we do every night. Only this night, there were a few more prayer requests and a few more praises.

Atlanta bound until Sunday.

To the Fish and Mr. Loria,
We are so grateful. Your generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and grace is such a treasure and something we will always look fondly back upon.

We're praying for our state, for our cities and homes, but what we're especially praying for are the souls of the people who make it all up. May they recognize the need for a savior through this and may the Lord save them in his mercy.

We've come to love you, Florida. Stay safe my friends and be wise. And don't stop praying. Actually praying. It does work.

Day 2,138

The Phelps Trade

See MooMoo!! It ain't so bad!

The beach is the best, Sis!!

We FINALLY made a believer out of her! Big Sis is all about the ocean now, which is a HUGE step in the right direction...considering the girl was born in Florida and lives on the beach half the year. Weeee! Mama is SO happy! All she needed was a bit of peer pressure, an unusually calm night of waves, and a little bit of the fact that she "doesn't have to swim in the ocean." We'll confront that issue later. For now, counting this as a victory!

Counting this as a victory as well! Nine baseball babes - yes, just one boy - all sitting AND smiling/looking at the camera!

We got all of the kids and a few of the wives together last night to say farewell - never goodbye - to one of our favorite baseball mamas as they pack up their lives in Miami and move on to...the Seattle Mariners. (Hey, Washington family - you have someone new to cheer for!) One of our relievers was traded to the M's two days ago and though this is all apart of the game, it's never easy. Maria is one of the dearest, most likeminded Mamas I've been able to bond with over the past couple years. She shares many of our parenting choices and I'm going to miss her immediate input, her wisdom, and her gentleness. I'm grateful that only a text or phone call separates us, but her presence will absolutely be missed. Love you Phelpsies!!

Day Two Thousand and Sixty-Three

The Bringer

Morning: bringer of peace and cozy snuggles.

Afternoon: bringer of smiles, Chipotle, and trips to the water park while Mama gets her hair RE-done.

Miami: bringer of the absolute worst highlight "balayage" experience ever in existence.

Simplicity Salon: bringer of hair abracadabra-ness and "melted" perfection.

Ellie: bringer of scraped foreheads from not catching falling toddlers from the back of the suburban ;)

Ella Mae: bringer of hickeys on sissy's chin.

Bedtime: bringer of brownie desserts and tiny friendship grins.

Day Two Thousand and Thirty-Eight

The 2017 Opening Day

It's Opening Day, Conleys! Get up! Or actually, just stay there. This is just as sweet. Sweeter even.

Opening Day #2 for Daddy, Opening Day #1 for 13-day old Ella Mae!

Hiiiiii Dada!

We're so excited!
After a bizarre, emotional, yet beautiful Spring Training filled with new life and Spiritual growth, we're grateful to be in these seats!

High five!

I'M JUST SO HAPPY THAT BEESBOL IS BACK!!!

I'M SO SLEEPY!

But, Go Fish!

The most adorable baseball babes in existence!

She can sleep through anything, my Sweet Ella Mae.

FISH WIN!

And so do we.
Love you forever, Dada.
So crazy about you and your ministry.

The gang!!
Opening Day wouldn't be complete without Dwama!

My heart...

...could just burst...

...into a gajillion...

...pieces!!!
Love you Conley Clan!

Day Nineteen Hundred and Eighty

The Puppy Lunch

Miami: where people bring their puppies into cozy lunch spots so Mimi can eat with them! I don't think I've ever seen her so excited to be in a restaurant before! It crushes our hearts that our baby can't have a doggy yet - and probably not for a long time either - but at least she's surrounded by other people's pups to make up for it. Thanks for the smiles, Queen!

Day Eighteen Hundred and Thirty-Five

The Sunset from Floor 29

Miami city life isn't our bag of tea.
But the sunsets, well, they sure do make up for it.
So does her pretty face.
And her piggy tails too!
__________

Adam update:
He threw a simulated game in Jupiter against our minor leaguers on Saturday and threw another simulated game against our team today. He's about ready to go and should be back at some point soon!!

Day Seventeen Hundred and Fifty-Seven

The Sticky Return

We're finally back in Miami after one of the busiest weeks I can remember. Though we're not city people, this part of the world sure is beautiful!

But yesterday was mostly anything but beautiful. Amelia summed it up well right before dinner. Yesterday was a hot, sticky, frustrating mess of a day and though I swore I'd never fly American Airlines ever again, at least they did manage to get us back home safely. Glad it's over and as I look back on it, yesterday's stresses were absolutely worth the night before.

Day Sixteen Hundred and Seventy-Six

The High Risers

We're so not city people, but when your work takes you to Miami, you either learn to deal with it, or...well, I'm not sure there's an alternative. And so, we're embracing our city life and enjoying the sights - from 29 stories high. Amelia says, "Hi everyone! Dad, are those ants down there?"

Balcony living has always given me the heebie jeebies. And so, it's not often that we're ever really on ours, but since it was so nice out yesterday, I had to open the doors and enjoy the South Florida sunshine while my two favorite people enjoyed each other!

(Don't worry, Grama, I don't allow Adam to hold Amelia in his arms on the balcony. He's too tall and she's too wiggly, so when she's in his arms, they're not outside - Mom's rules!)

Day Sixteen Hundred and Sixty-Three

The 10th Condo

We're exhausted.

But after three hours of waiting in the truck for the condo to be ready, two hours of paperwork, and one hour of unpacking all by ourselves, we're home away from home.

At least before the craziness, we got to enjoy Dada during breakfast in the most colorful and artistic neighborhood any of us have ever seen: Wynwood Art District. What we thought would just be a small local organic resturaunt experience, turned into the most artistic display of our lives. The photos don't even do the mile radius of spray painted buildings justice, but it was totally fascinating and mesmerizing!!

Little Miss Mimi enjoyed it just as much as her parents did!

Hello and good night from the crazy city of colors!
