Day 4,226

The Eleventh Year!

HAPPY ELEVENTH ANNIVERSARY to us!!

It was a day filled with smiles and laughter, some sleepiness and sore muscles, but we are praising the Lord for His continued faithfulness in our lives. Eleven years ago, we never could've imagined where it would be that He would bring us, but right here is far better and so much more beautiful that anything we could've planned for ourselves. Adam has been a true joy to partner in this life with. I have been blessed by the faith of a man who is sincere and ever-maturing. His love for his God and the overflow of that relationship has poured abundantly into our marriage. He has exemplified the command given to husbands in Ephesians 5 and because of it, I am a wife who is able to so enjoy and flourish in the gift of marriage God gave to me.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wifeand the two shall become one fleshThis mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
Ephesians 5:25-33

I love you dearly, Adam.
What a pure, true, fulfilling, encouraging, and tremendously generous gift I've been given in calling you Husband.
The kindness of God is overwhelming.

Day 3,653

The Tenth Anniversary!

*It's 2:50AM Wednesday morning. I haven't had a working phone for parts of three days now and I'm currently packing up the most recent AirBnb to move out today at 10AM. I had this plan of writing all about our last ten years (not that this blog hasn't sufficiently and succinctly outlined it with quite detail already haha), but turns out, this very specific and monumental moment in our lives has sort of just passed over itself in all the "normal" insanities of everyday baseball life. Adam is currently in Toronto, Canada, we spent our tenth anniversary apart while he was in Detroit, MI, and the day after 9/10, my phone was splashed by a gigantic wave at the beach and is now completely ruined. SO, I'll update on the celebration of our Tenth when we end up celebrating it...in December! But here's a little look-in to what the day of my Tenth Anniversary--and subsequently my tenth year of consecutive daily blog posts (three thousand six hundred and fifty-three days in a row!)--looked like:

I was surprised by a special delivery from Edible Arrangements(!), in which my children immediately took off with Edi Bear and ate my half of the cheesecake when my back was turned. Thank you, Molly the Ankle Biter Conley. At least I got some chocolates!

And pretty flowers too!

We spent the day at the pool with our friends.

Watched a lightning storm.

Screamed for Daddy when he went in to pitch!

And smiled the second we got to see that handsome face for just a little more time before bed.

He is so easy to love.
And I am so thankful he's mine.
What an incomprehensible and incredibly generous gift I was given in a husband.
I can't get over just how special he--and these last ten years with him--are to me.
I LOVE YOU ENDLESSLY, ADAM MICHAEL!!!!!

Day 3,289

The Much Anticipated Anniversary Date Night

While the Little Gremlins tore up the floor and tore down the house...

Daddy and Mommy tore into a huge piece of peanut butter cake...totally uninterrupted!

It was maybe ever slightly over due, but considering the circumstances of the past 6 months, we sure made up for lost time alone and cherished every moment of our night at The Gafford (Adam and I won’t go anywhere else on date night—best food in town, hands down!)

We got a few moments to walk and talk and enjoyed the calm of a cooled off Florida evening next to the water.

He’a my best friend—better than the best I could’ve tried asking for. I still can’t believe it.  What a grace from God. And though this year has brought much change, frustration, difficulty, and uncertainty, the two of us have gotten to spend more time together than any year before, and for that, I can’t imagine anything better. The Lord’s ways are good. He is scandalously kind and I am more thankful than I know how to express. I love you, Adam. You are truly a treasure unlike any.

I’m not sure it calmed down much at our house while we were gone, but Grandma kept it from burning down, so WE WIN!! Yaaaaay Gammy! Thank you SO much for serving us so generously—it is appreciated far more than you know!

Day 3,287

The Ninth Year of Conley

9.10.20
Nine years of marriage and it just keeps getting sweeter.
If you would’ve asked me on my wedding day nine years ago, what my life would look like now, I’d never imagine being able to articulate something even close to the picture above. Praise God. The abundant and generous kindness of the Lord is overwhelming and I am more thankful than I know how to express. We love our marriage. And I love my man. Adam has faithfully and diligently pursued Jesus, and because of it, he’s faithfully and diligently pursued me. I know I am loved, honored, cherished, respected, considered. I am protected, provided for, and prayed for. Adam is so good to me and my children—a gift that I am humbled to experience every single day.

I love you, Adam.
I am so thankful to be living life holding your hand.
Happy Anniversary.

As you maybe know by now, Adam and I (well, mostly me, let’s be real) like to give the traditional wedding gifts on our anniversary. For the ninth year, the traditional gift you’re supposed to give is pottery. We couldn’t come up with many ideas, but thought that making or painting pottery would be fun—at least for the kids! So, we found a local place where we could ALL celebrate our marriage, and we had the kids each choose a pottery item to make for Daddy and I.

Bearett chose a cross. A boy after our hearts!

Amelia chose a vase. Fresh flowers in the Conley house—she knows us well!

Ella Mae chose a picture frame. Even she understands how much we love our pictures!

And Molly (hardly pictured because taking a one year old to a pottery store is close to being considered insanity) “chose” a jar and lid. Little decorative pieces are always sought after in this family!

We had fun and made a mess. The kids would’ve stayed longer and painted more if Molly wasn’t such a rhino, but, they finished their pieces and are anxious to see their masterpieces.

Below, a picture of each kids’ paint AFTER their creations were competed. We laughed—SO accurate of each of their personalities.

Oh, happy days to us!

Day 2,921

The Eighth Year of I Do

Eight years later and it’s honestly never ever been better. Ever. I say it each year and it remains true even still: I feel like a newlywed. The bliss hasn’t faded. The newness hasn’t worn. The butterflies haven’t left. Our bond is far deeper. Our friendship far truer. Our love far greater. Now, we might be a tad more tired than we were in those early days, but with the maturing of our marriage due to the maturing of our faith, we’ve come to a very clear and real understanding that we are capable of so much more life than we’ve ever known. It just takes work. Hard work. Long work. Intentional work. Faithful work.

And so, we put the work in. And we don’t stop. And it’s good. It’s really good. And it’s good becuase Adam serves and loves a gracious God who gave us marriage to enjoy in its proper context. And not only did He give us marriage, He gave us the “blueprints” to enjoying a healthy, holy, loving and purposeful marriage. And I’ll say this boldly: our marriage is strong and beautiful and sweet and enduring becuase we love the One who made it. And our delight is first in Him...and His word.

I’m grateful beyond measure for the man that stands alongside me day in and day out. I love being the helper to him that God created me to be and I love serving him in all the ways I know how. He makes it such a joy to be his wife. And so easy.

And so, to celebrate our special day, we did something we’ve never done in the eight years we’ve lived in Florida. For a brief backstory: I always “give” the traditional wedding gift each year to Adam. And by “give,” I mean “do.” For example, the traditional gift for year two is “cotton.”  So, I took Adam parasailing in the “cotton clouds.” Year three is leather - we went horseback riding on leather saddles in the ocean. Stuff like that. Year Eight is the traditional gift of Bronze. Hmmmm. Well, it was a hard one, but I ended up discovering that the hardware on most boats - and more parts, I just don’t have specifics - is made out of bronze because bronze doesn’t rust!

And so, we went out on the ocean on a chartered boat for the first time ever yesterday and LOVED IT. We did lots of fishing - catching and releasing - and truly just enjoyed each other and our kids so much.

Happy eighth anniversary, Adam. I am so thankful. And God is so kind. And you. You are incredible, Babe. Just incredible.

I love you.

Day 2,263

The Seventh Year of “I Do”

A man in New York asked us how we have three children - are pregnant - and still manage to like each other. Timely, considering the occasion.

I tell people often, “I still feel like a newlywed” and truly, it’s not an exaggeration. I really do. It’s still exciting and fresh and raw and new. And it’s not because I’m just madly in love with him - which I absolutely am. It’s not just because I got lucky - which most people would say I probably did.

It’s because Adam loves Christ more than he loves me.

And he finds great worth and joy and freedom in loving Christ and serving his wife and family in the manner the Lord has called Believers to. Sacrificially in love. It’s no easy task. And much is required of him. But daily, he’s chosen to love me in obedience to God’s design and by his faithfulness, being married to him is the greatest blessing and joy of my life outside of my own salvation. He continues to lead me to new revelation, new understanding, new love, and new hope. He is loyal, determined, constant. And I’m just so thankful that this is the man I get to live life alongside. The man I get to share my children with. Who teaches them and leads them and disciplines them and loves them.

Seven years ago, I didn’t imagine this.

Because my imagination couldn’t have managed the overwhelmingly beautiful thought of bringing us to where the Lord has.

My life’s treasure on the sweetest of days. What a blessing marriage is. What a delight when it’s experienced how God intended it to be.

And it’s not to say we have everything figured out. We don’t. We certainly have a lot to learn and it’s not always pretty. But our hope is found in Christ and by the grace of God, that’s enough to drive this marriage in a direction that joyfully honors each other as it honors the Lord.

On 9/10/2011, we said “I do.”
On 9/10/2018, we said the same.
And we did so at a Manhattan restaurant down the block from our hotel at a place called...9Ten. Pretty good, guys. Pretty good.

The kids and I celebrated the rest of the afternoon at the top of the sky in a thoroughly chlorinated pool (which turned both girls’ hair green!!!).

And then the shocking news: Adam’s game was postponed due to rain, which meant we ALL got to celebrate together the rest of the night!! An unexpected anniversary treat!

I love you more than you’ll ever know, Adam. It’s my joy and delight to be your wife. Truly. Happy Seven.
