Day 2,285

The Long Exhale

The simple things are our favorite things.
Big offseason breakfasts with Daddy can’t be beat, knowing especially that after we clean up, Dad gets to stay home with us. It sure is nice to have him back. Nicer than nice. We are so thankful. It came at the perfect time.

To wrap up the 2018 season, Adam recorded 50.2 innings in 52 games, compiling 50 strikeouts and a 4.09 ERA in his first year in the bullpen. Entering into the season initially as a starter in AAA, Adam found a sweet spot in the ‘pen once he ironed out the huge changes he made mechanically during the 2017 offseason. He was able to increase his average velocity by 5 MPH, recorded his highest velocity ever at 99.19 MPH(!!), and pitched better in every category apart from ERA - which was offset by just three bad outings totaling 13 runs. He also recorded his first save of his career and ended up saving three games in total. He also added one babe to the Conley clan, who’s making her debut in February 2019! A busy year for sure. We’re proud of our Papa and encouraged by the tremendous steps he took this year on the field. And easily, without comparison, we’re even more proud of the growth we witnessed in him in Christ.

We love you, Daddy.
And we sure are happy to have you home, even though we already miss baseball. A little.

Day 2,246

The Day That Just Kept on Getting Better

I mean. Seriously?
This is how the girls started the morning.

This is how we played in the afternoon.

This is how they helped in the evening.

And this is how he battled - and won in epic fashion - at the end of the night.

For the first time ever, the monkey made the player of the game pie his own self in the face, making for shrieking toddler laughter the rest of the night.

For the story on Adam’s second career save and self-inflicting pied face:

(All of the face pie-ing photos were taken from the Miami Marlins Twitter account and are not my own)

Day 2,220

The Happy Cheers and GoodbyeTears

Pregame show on the couch and there’s the Dada!
HIIIIIIII!!!

In-game show in the stands and there’s the Dada again!
HIIIIIIII!!!!

We rushed to get ready and made it to the game just in time to see him pitch the Seventh inning and then the worst part...

...to say goodbye.
One week guys. We got this.
<Insert Amelia bawling her eyes out here>

I’ll never get used to it.

Day 2,212

The CatDog

It took:
Three hours at the pool.
A two and a half hour nap.
A cat mask.
One late snack.
A Seventh inning appearance.
And a crimial shutdown of ALL food service during the eighth inning of a 6PM game that led to:
AMELIA’S FIRST HOTDOG EVER.
Like, EVER, ever.

I don’t know whether to be proud or belligerently angry at myself and all others involved.
But who shuts down literally every dinner vendor available by 8:30PM?! The Rays do.
But who left it up to a stadium to feed supper to her hungry kids? This mom did.
I think I lose.
And that, my friends, is one of the many reasons we don’t frequent Dad’s games like we used to. When waking up from naps, preparing food, and eating supper collide with game time, it’s easier and better and all around just wiser for our family to stay home. Save money. Save calories. Save health.
But ok, yeah, the hotdog totally tasted SO good, in case you were wondering.

Day 2,211

The Save at Rays

What’s better than watching a baseball game while petting rays?

Easy.

It’s watching a baseball game while petting rays and then witnessing Dada notch his VERY FIRST SAVE of his MLB career. That’s what!!!

Daddy hasn’t saved a game since his Regional game back at WSU in 2010. Keep yourself that ball, Dad!! Wahoo!

Hopefully that’s just one of more to come! From starting to closing in one half a season, what an encouragement and honor. Well done, Babe.

Day 2,194

The Fourth

Happy FOURth!
Eight years ago today, Adam and I were swinging on a hammock in the same backyard we ended up getting married in just a little over a year later. It was then that we began dating. Oh how fast time truly does go. Fast forward, and we’ve got a fourth baby on the way...”warming up in the ‘pen.” We were shocked at the news and could only laugh as a response because just a few weeks prior, we had “decided” that we were “done with three.” Ha! The Lord is so good and though our plans have changed, His plan always remained and we’re excited about that because His plans have proven over and over to always be better. We can’t wait to see who this tiny babe turns out to be and look forward to shepherding their heart. We’re 9 weeks right now and due either the end of January or beginning of February! Our first appointment with our midwife is during the All-Star break and we’re planning to have another home birth...one that Bear can be apart of!!

Bearett told us when we found out, “I want a brother so I can teach him how to be a man.” And Amelia is begging for another sister.

Can’t wait to see how the Fourth fits in. Love them so much.

Day 2,191

The Heat!

Aaaaaaand THAT’S my Dada, folks! See him? Right there. There! I’m pointing to him so you won’t miss him. See?! DAAAAADAAAAA! Hi!! Hi Dada! Dada. Dada! I say Dada fifty million times every baseball game and when I finally get my requested man, I point and shout and scream and dance.

And I dance some more and scream the loudest when I see 98 on the tv for the first time EVER!! It’s officially tv official! That pitch was 98.4MPH and we were PUMPED! All those adjustments sure did their job, my goodness!!! Yaaaaaaay Daddy!!!

Can’t stop smiling. Can’t stop dancing. It was making us sweaty so we hopped into the pool and played until our man came home in time for supper!

Day 2,180

The Field of Conleys

Bearett hits the balls (hard).

Amelia catches the balls (on her car).

Ella Mae steals home (literally).

And Dad throws the balls (in San Fransisco, keeping Mom awake until 3).

Dad pitched one inning, 9 total pitches, and struck out two.

Day 2,173

The Supper Relief

Eatin’ supper. Watchin’ Dad. Screamin’ “PUNCH HIM OUT!” These are the days.

Daddy threw one inning last night, getting his second “hold” and not giving up any runs or hits or walks. He’s got 10.2 innings with a 1.69 ERA.

Day 2,170

The Miami Saturday

Mango catch.

Lizard inspection.

Outdoor shower.

Creepy mermaid.

Teal Marlin.
(1.1IP, 2.08 ERA)

Day 2,169

The Florida Marlins

Adam was drafted in 2011 by the Florida Marlins, one year before they’d change both their name and color scheme in 2012 to the orange, blue, and yellow Miami Marlins. From as early as I can remember, my favorite color was teal. I liked it so much, it was one of our wedding colors, even prior to knowing he’d be drafted to the Florida Marlins. So you can imagine our excitement and nostalgia when the now Miami Marlins brought back the “retro” jerseys for the celebration of the club’s 25th anniversary. The comparison is none: these jerseys are INCREDIBLE!!

We even got our kids rockin the teal while sitting out by Dada in the bullpen.

She says, “OH YEAH BABY.”

“Just give me teal, pizza, and baseball and I’ll never cry.”

Such fun!
And to be celebrating with these three babes who weren’t even a blip on the radar all those years ago: priceless.
