Day 2,190

The House Call

Sleeping the day away.

Twice vomiting, Bearett hadn’t eaten in two days. Elderberry and apple cider vinegar helped, but what he really needed was an adjustment.

Enter: Uncle Lucas.
And what a treasured blessing he is to our family! All the way from Jupiter and on short notice, he came down to help get Dada feeling better and when he learned the kids were sick too, he decided that we all needed adjustments.

So, to our house he came. We made him supper and he made us feel better. Amelia was so excited to get her adjustment that she took her bacon with her and ate it while he adjusted her!

And once we were feeling better, the kids knew that Lucas probably needed an adjustment too! We are so blessed by this man’s heart and love for his work. He’s helped our health in ways no other doctor has and we are constantly grateful for his care of our bodies, but even more, our family. He ended up adjusting our locked-up Daddy in the span THREE times in twelve hours between last night and this morning and unlike ever before, he clearly needed it. Thank you Uncle Lucas! We love you!!

Day 2,388

The Quad Squad

Back on the Quad for the first time in a couple years and it brought with it some nostalgia and truthfully some bitterness. The latter of which I recognized immediately and had to preach continually to myself basically the whole book of Philippians. Ha! Not a bad way to sit at a baseball game, friends. Joy, always. Unending joy that cannot be shaken. Joy that comes only from my security in Christ. That’s the kind of joy I desire to live in and this appointed date with AAA is the perfect setting in which I can practice from. Please pray that I’m faithful in my pursuits!

Adam went into yesterday with the goal of becoming more acquainted with this new slider of his. He told the catcher that regardless of situation, he wanted to throw his slider on every 0-2 and 1-2 count. And he did. Every single one. He said he probably threw about 30 sliders yesterday in five innings. A far cry from the average 6 that he normally throws per game. It’s a completely different pitch than he’s thrown for the last uh, probably 10 years, but he’s incredibly encouraged because this slider actually breaks down and right, whereas it used to break similar to his changeup - down and left. Insane how much he learned this offseason! If he can get a good “feel” for this new pitch of his, and if his fastball continues to progress, he likes his chances.

The kids quite enjoyed Dad’s “park” game, though upon entering the Quad, a hitter swang AND RELEASED his bat, which flew and landed three feet in front of the four of us. Had we walked any slower, one of us would’ve gotten smoked by a 15 MPH flying wooden bat. Noted! They ran around the field, played in the dirt, skipped their naps, climbed trees, peed on trees, and made new friends. And then after, they got to go see Uncle Lucas. All in all, I’d say yesterday was far sweeter than bitter and as I reflect on it, I’m thankful for the test set before me, as I pray it increases my dependence and joy in Christ.

Day 2,276

The Overdue Adjustment

I’d say about three or four of every seven nights, Amelia makes it through the night in her own bed. The other half usually end at about 4AM when a tiny pitter patter of feet come running into our room. We have a California king, but she’s ALWAYS slept like the horizontal part of an H, so everyone else ends up crunched, even in a gigantic bed. I guess it would probably do us all a favor if I or Adam just carried her back into her bedroom and put her back to sleep, but we’re just not that motivated at 4AM most times. And so, we sleep the extra couple hours until 6:30 and sometimes if they’re feeling extra gracious, they’ll stay asleep long enough for me to prepare Adam’s breakfast and study my Bible. We’re on three days in a row currently. Woooo!

But those nights she decides to crawl in with the three of us, well, let’s just say we’re grateful for Dr. Lucas to unkink all the kinks she contorts us into!

We’re so grateful we’ve found someone who cares as passsionately about our children’s health as he does.

These babes are some healthy and robust gremlins and we owe much of that to this man right here. Thank you Uncle Lucas!!

Day 2,234

The First Meds

"Hey Amelia! Good morning. Want to see what your eye looks like?"

She looks...
*GASP*

So she's gotta be allergic to bug bites or something. And they sure love her down here in Florida, so there's not many ways around it. My goodness. Pretty sure she was SWIMMING when the ant crawled onto HER FACE, for Pete's sake! Despite the gigantic smile, Amelia started throwing a fit later on in the day because her wash cloth was "too cold." Can't win.

In contrast. Always winning.

Clearly.

We had a whole day of fun scheduled for yesterday, but fearing public condemnation for my daughter's bowling ball eye, we went to see Uncle Lucas instead. Smart choice,

Because: this.
Dr. Lucas got her immune system all set up for us to wreak havoc on :( Feast your eyes upon Amelia's first EVER dose of oral medication. Age two years and eight months.

I was nervous about giving her something because she's never had any experiences with medicine, but it went as well as it could've.

With a nursing pad replacing her cold washcloth, we bummed out and tried resting her bites away.

By the end of the night, it had gone down noticeably, but it's definitely still there. One thing for sure: it's never dull around here.

Day 2,219

The Royal Adjustment

Grandma Katy got a new bed. Ella Mae approves. She REALLY approves.

She also got a new chiropractor.

The kids approve.

And again, Ella Mae REALLY approves.

Thanks for caring for our spines, Dr. Royal! And especially for Grandma's. She was hurting before you put her back together!

Healthy spines. Long naps. It's science.

Day 2,169

The Chiro, Cows, and Quiet Time

How Mom was feeling before Lucas.

How Mom was feeling after Lucas!

We sure missed our Uncle Lucas, but finally, we made it back to the office and EVERYONE was excited to see him for hugs and an adjustment.

(This might be one of my most favorite photos of Ella Mae!)

Bearett had lots of "popcorn"'in his spine. Doc fixed him right up!

Millie too! Thank you Dr. Lucas! We're so thankful for the care you've given us over the past four years!

With our spines in line, it was off to the chickens.

And cows too!

Our church family is so cool that we even have access to baby cows and egg-laying chickens. We got it made.

Toddler heaven, right here.

Dirt. Sand. Rocks. Sticks. Buckets. I don't know if I've seen them happier. And boots. Can't forget about the boots.

They sure had a lot of fun yesterday. And it just continued into the night. We're learning lots and getting used to each other more and more with each passing day. They love each other dearly. And I love watching their relationships unfold. Especially in front of the Bible. Lord, may they love your Word as they grow older, as much as they love it now.
