The First Month of Ella Mae
Guys. It's been a month already. A MONTH. In like, 12 days that happened. Easily, the shortest month of our lives. And also the fullest. We are head over heels smitten and in love with our Ella Mae and can't even begin to imagine how we ever went without her. She's the sweetest, most gentle and resilient Rainbow Baby and we're so grateful the Lord entrusted her to us.
In just 31 days, Ella Mae has gained 2.8 pounds and grown two inches; she's now 10.8 pounds and 23 inches tall. Her little cheeks are filling out and she's already grown out of both newborn diapers and newborn onesies. But Ella Mae, you're still my little newborn, ok?! I'm not ready for you to grow up yet!
Most people say that Ella Mae looks a lot like her sister. I agree. Definitely. Goodness gracious, they're cute! However, where Amelia looked a little more like Daddy as an infant, Ella Mae looks a little more like Mommy. She's got her auntie and her sister's little elf ear, three angel kisses (one on her forehead, two on her lips), a slight reddish tint to her hair, long fingers and toes, the perfect little lips, and a big belly full of milk!
Our baby loves the shower - she took her first one around 8 days old - and the sunshine. Anything that has to do with staying warm is her idea of a good time. Can't blame her - a Florida girl through and through. She also loves her sleepsack, her carrier, her binky, sleeping next to Mommy, and every drop of milk she can swallow (which is a lot!)! She dislikes the car seat (surprise, surprise), getting her diaper changed, being tired, and the cold. Her little gums even chatter already!
At two days old, Ella Mae went to her first baseball game. On day 12, she survived her first in-season move to Miami, and on day 18, she flew all the way across the country to Seattle. She's stayed in two hotels, 5 beds, ridden on six airplanes, visited three states and three baseball stadiums. And through all that, she's only had 2 blowouts, maybe two pukes worthy of recording, and has rolled over three times. No joke. She's the best! And her serious faces are too!! Such a little trooper. I can already tell she's going to be my resilient one. It's been built into her from the moment of conception and I absolutely love that about her.
Resilient, yes. A newborn still though, absolutely.
Little Sis doesn't prefer being unsnuggled! But she sure loves her hands at her face, which I noticed during the pregnancy. What a treasure she is, our precious Ella Mae.
We love you forever, Little One. And we can't wait to see who you become. We've been praying about you and over you for such a long time, and to have to wait to get to know you was hard, but worth every tear. You're everything I hoped for and so much more. Happy one month, my little Rainbow Girl. You being so much joy and hope to my life. I love you forever, babe.
