The Honeymoon Sleepyheads
We touched down at 5:45 AM Tahiti time and couldn’t have
been more excited to get off the plane and stretch. Seated in row 45, Adam and
I were one of the very last couples to de-board, and when we did, we were
pleasantly greeted with the warm, balmy Tahitian weather wrapping around us,
and also, the stunning sight of our oversized aircraft.
Tahiti Faaa (yes, that’s THREE A’s) Airport welcomed us
warmly. Both figuratively and literally. Waiting for us when we walked into the
building was a pair of ukelee players and an island dancer. They were lovely.
But the Immigration line…that was anything but lovely. Almost 400 people were
lined up ahead of us, and in a small space without air conditioner, our
hour-long wait was anything but ideal.
After a 3-minute Passport check with the local Immigration
police, Adam and I were each greeted with a deliciously fragrant lei, given a
pamphlet of coupons, and directed to a bus that would take us to the ferry.
The Armeriti 5
Moorea is a 25-minute ferry ride from Tahiti. It’s recognized
for its jagged mountain peaks and can be seen clearly from Tahiti. We boarded
the boat at 9:30 AM and rode on the upper deck, admiring and breathing in the
beautiful sights all around us.
Arriving in Moorea, we were once again greeted by a nice
fella who had our name written out of a white board! He directed us to another
bus that would eventually take us to the Intercontinental Resort and Spa Moorea!
Bone tired and feeling desperate for rest, we got into our
bungalow 3 hours before regular check-in time (hallelujah!) and in a most cozy, romantic, and relaxing room, Adam and I laid down at 11 AM for a little nap. We didn’t
wake up until 6 PM! Oops! By the time we got up and moving, the sun was already
almost set and we hadn’t seen a thing yet!
Not knowing anything about our hotel other than the path
from the lobby to our room, Adam and I ventured out onto the road in search of
some place to eat. We walked for 10 minutes and when we couldn’t find anything,
we returned to our hotel and found their restaurant. It was delicious and
exactly what we needed! We’re here! We’re here! And we’re SO excited to finally enjoy our Moorean honeymoon.
