Day Two Hundred and Fifty

The Game Beyond the Field

It's a curious job, this baseball life. Behind the lights and beyond the field, so many more things are happening. Things that before Adam, I would never have known to question. When I first saw Adam with a camera walking around the concourse, my curiosity sparked. Did they really give him a new camera?! Is he willingly taking pictures for his own pleasure? No way! Who am I kidding; no way, indeed. I didn't realize that "camera man" was part of the job description. Well, it is. Every day, the starting pitchers have a certain task, beyond throwing the ball, that they're required to complete. Sitting in the stands, they record every detail of the game. Tonight, Adam's job was to film every pitcher and every hitter who entered the game, at least once. Lucky for me, he ended up recording right in my line of sight! It's fascinating to watch him work. Even at filming. He takes it very seriously, just as he does pitching, and rarely makes eye contact with me. Every now and then, I get a few texts and catch a few stares, but certainly not as many as I'd wish for! And because it's interesting, a fun fact: The players get fined if they're caught sitting next to, or even in the vicinity of, their "significant other." Boooo. So even though my husband sits in the stands 4 out of every 5 games, I still don't get to hang out with him.

We had another date night with Jose and Alejandra following the game. They're so wonderful. In the past few weeks, we've grown very close. And fast. It's been such a blessing to have been given their friendship and trust. And as a newlywed couple speaking to an engaged couple, Adam and I feel honored and privileged to be able to help them see life and marriage in a different light. When I reflect on all the different reasons God could've sent us here, the first thing that comes to mind is Jose and Alejandra. We pray that we're actively showing them what a Godly marriage looks like, and would ask that you'd be praying for us as well.
