The Lakewood Traveler
The day Adam left, I was desperate to find a way to get to him before he started the next game. A week away was just too long for our first separation. But he didn't want me to drive: too long, too far, to dangerous. So, I spent hours searching the internet for flight deals. Finally, after I had almost given up hope, I thought of a pretty brilliant idea. Credit card points! We've been saving them up, and by the time it came to pay for the ticket, I handed over FIVE DOLLARS! I'll take it! I drove to Raleigh, got on the teeny tiny plane, and flew all by myself, like a big girl, to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
Adam's game was in Lakewood, New Jersey tonight, which is about an hour and a half drive from NY, NY. So, here's my rental! Too bad I'm not 25 yet, though. They charge an extra fee for not being "grown up" enough, apparently. Boo. Gas mileage on this tiny matchbox car (it's a Ford Escape...much smaller than the Raptor!) is 25 MPG. Soooo much better than the 12.1 we're getting right now!
I showed up to the field 3 hours early, took a nap, re-did my makeup (I was sweaty and bored, alright?!), changed my clothes, and headed into the park to watch my handsome man take the mound. I like this one because you can see Terrance and Rand in the background.
Adam pitched 6 innings tonight. 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 7 punchouts, and a no-decision. No, no more perfect ERA anymore. I was sad. Almost cried. But then I got over it. He still pitched well, just needed to finish off all those guys he took 0-2! Ughhhh!! And, the five errors didn't help either. They lost 5-4 tonight, and though it didn't go the way we'd prefer, I'd make the trip every single time if I could! Even if I have to suffer through the butterfly swarm and coffee jitters for 24 straight hours! Haha. Oh, and Adam sat 92-95, and touched 97. It was 78 degrees when he started pitching.
And yes, Larry, even though my day began at 6 AM and ended at 12 AM, I still found a way to do P90X! Right after the game ended...in the hotel room. Hahaha. Love it!!
