The Minor League Life
Hey guys, it's Adam! writing this blog from the great state of New Jersey.
Disclaimer: I have no real knowledge of New Jersey, nor do I have any particular reason to say that it is a "great state."
For my purposes, it's another start, another opportunity to learn, and another opportunity for my wife to cry if I lose, or cry because she thinks I'll get called up to the Big Leagues after I win. Either way, there will be crying. Embrace it. Life on the road is exactly what you would expect it to be like. I spend travel days eating unhealthy food, reading, listening to music, and thinking, while a big swaying sleeper bus drives 30 grown men/boys for multiple hours on end. I knew what I was getting into, and I love all of it. I'm ready to pay my dues, sleep terribly, carry the ball bucket, and stay in cheap hotels.
Disclaimer: I would rather pay no dues.
I've been waiting to experience this since I was 7 years old. I get to see things most people don't get to, and for that I feel blessed. I am starting tomorrow against the Lakewood Blueclaws for the second time. I hear their facilities are second best in this league behind the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and for that I'm excited.
Today is Sunday, that means Baseball Chapel. I felt a calling to lead my fellow brothers and teammates in The Good Word. I was looking forward to talking to them about Romans 12, until the Chapel Guy came walking up and snaked my spotlight. Right after all the guys were calling me pastor Conley too. Darnit. His name was Kevin and he did a great job. Even though he didn't talk about Romans 12 at all. Though I didn't get to lead Chapel, I have been working on a devotional before I get on the field every day and it has helped me put my job into perspective.
Disclaimer: I've always had great perspective.
Days on the road are mostly spent in a hotel room or on the field, unfortunately tomorrow I'll spend a lot of time in the hotel room waiting to head to the field before my start. It's worth the wait. Starters show up 2 hours before game time, typically thats near 3 hours after everyone else shows up. One thing that will make the wait easier will be having my beautiful wife Kendall with me.
Disclaimer: Kendall's actually gorgeous.
