The NC Sight See-er (?)
60 miles away, UNC Chapel Hill is home to the Tar Heels. And a perfect place to spend any Saturday alone. Because there's plenty of entertainment. When I was searching for things to do this week, I was disappointed when I discovered that both UNC and Duke baseball teams are away. Boo. But then, my mind started racing, and I thought: TRACK! Sure enough, the Tar Heels hosted a track meet today, and I got way too excited. Like, an embarrassing amount of excitement. And so, I decided to jump in the truck and head out for a day at the field. Just like old times. It was weird watching from the stands. For 9 years, I was always out there, running around, peeing my pants (yes, in 10th grade I ran a relay and peed my pants. I was laughing too hard and couldn't help myself. Wow Kendall), jumping high, and setting records. Geeze, I sound like some old pathetic lady, brushing up on long lost memories. "Back in my day..." Hahaha.
In all my years of track and field, I never saw something as powerful as this. If you look closely, you'll notice that the two men in gray are holding a red band between them. The athlete on the left is completely blind. The athlete on the right is his guide. He's a Paralympic Olympian, who's won countless medals. What an inspiration.
UNC has football. Whaaaa? I thought their only claim to fame was on the basketball court? ;) Hahha. But ah ha! I found the reason for Chapel Hill's craziness: The Spring Game! Looks a bit different than WSU, eh? I NEVER saw this many fans at any spring game in Pullman. Maybe this year it was different? Let me know. Anyways, Wow. What a beautiful stadium and what a bunch of outstanding fans.
Apparently, this Well is of some significance. I was told, "If you keep walking that way, you'll see The Well. You can't miss it." The Well? Uhm? I was then told, "You know, the well on all the pictures of UNC." No, actually, I don't know anything about The Well. But I knew it was important. So I got a picture. One with me, one without. I felt accomplished, even though I still don't know what The Well is all about. I suppose I have something to do tomorrow then?
Ahhhhhh. DUKE. 10 miles away (Charlie argued it was only 8...whatever), in the quiet beauty of Durham, lies this historic campus. Holy smokes. Just driving through it made me feel like an intruder. Wow. So many brilliant minds...everywhere. Duke is a peaceful campus, much quieter than UNC. Maybe I just came on the wrong weekend? But I loved it.
Both of the photos above are taken of the same church. What a stunning sight.
I didn't walk around Duke's campus though. Just drove. Turns out, they don't like you parking anywhere on campus, and I was too tired and sunburnt to walk. So, I saw it by truck. Maybe Addi and I will go back and see it on foot.
If you're in Durham, and if you just-so-happen to be married to a professional baseball player, it might be considered a sin not to stop and pay tribute to the Bulls. Yes, this is Durham Bulls Athletic Park. And no, there wasn't a home game today. GOSH DARNIT! I walked around the entire stadium, taking in the feel of Durham's history. I LOVED IT. Actually, I just love North Carolina in general. See in that photo? I'm holding up my hand in proof: the I Love You sign! (Actually, that was meant for Adam...but it can be for North Carolina too). I told Adam tonight that we're going to live in North Carolina forever. He impolitely told me no. Something about having to move to Miami eventually. Eh. Hahahahaha. (That was a joke, ok.)
Oh, and I couldn't take a picture of it because I'm obviously not there, but Addi's apartment in Wichita, Kansas, was hit by a tornado tonight. She's fine, but HOLY SMOKES. So scary.
