The Punctual (Unlike My Husband) Dinner
In the past few months, I've learned how to prepare our dinners so that each entree is ready to eat as soon as the others. It's called time management, and maybe my sweet husband could learn a thing or two from me and my recently acquired cooking skills ;) More of that story to come in a second. I've been testing out new recipes this week, and today, Adam and I found one that we absolutely loved! Balsamic-Garlic Crusted Pork Tenderloins. And they were outrageously delicious. Adam was skeptical when he smelled the marinade, but after one juicy bite, he was hooked! Even better, it only took us 30 minutes to prepare and cook! If only we had a grill though...but the apartment people won't let us! Complete the pork with Grandma's butter/soy sauce asparagus recipe and Adam's perfectly made mashed red potatoes, and this was one happy place to be for dinner!
Adam's day, however, didn't necessarily have the same happy feeling. With three days left of his minicamp, he was beginning to familiarize himself with the intricacies of the schedule, and had it all timed out as precisely as possible. He shows up early every day even though it's not mandatory and stays until the end. But today, everything changed. He was late. Because he was so certain of the schedule, he didn't bother to look at the board yesterday. If he had, he would have seen that today's practice was set an hour earlier than yesterday. By the time 12:40 rolled around, Adam was collecting his things to head over to the field. That's when the phone call came in. His trainer was on the other line, asking him where he was. In less than a minute, Adam was sprinting out the door. He showed up 20 minutes late. And now he has two 5 AM workouts next week, known by the Marlins as "The Breakfast Club," in which he'll pay for his tardiness with sweat. This was sincerely an honest mistake and I'm thankful that he's built such a solid reputation with the coaching staff, who were even concerned that something was wrong when they realized Adam wasn't there. I was curious if he struggled through an army of bad jokes and hard times today, but he said that nothing of the sort happened. Leave it up to me to worry if Adam's getting picked on at work. Haha! I'm such a worrier. On the bright side, he was scheduled to throw live batting practice today, and Adam threw great! Live BP looks a little something like this: imagine a hitter at the plate with a pitching machine pitching him balls behind a screen. Replace Adam with the pitching machine, and that's what you see at BP. Also, before every pitch, he's required to signal to the hitter which pitch he's going to throw. This helps the hitter work on his techniques in a safe and efficient manner. So, when Adam throws the ball, the guy with the bat knows exactly what's coming. And on the second or third pitch of the day - a fastball away - Adam broke the hitter's bat!!! This perfect news made up for the fiasco that started off the day.
