The Sixth Year of Amelia
And then, she was six.
SIX!!!
And truly, it’s been the richest, most full and joyful six years of our lives. In no way could we have ever anticipated such a rewarding gift that has been Amelia’s life. She has brought us an infinite amount of love and tenderness and joy and laughter. She’s been our trailblazer, my sweetest helper, the best big sister, the best of friends, and the easiest babe to teach and raise. Goodness, Amelia. I can’t even begin to understand the overwhelming amount of love I have for you.
Yesterday, she woke up to balloons and a card from her brother. He wrote to her, “Happy birthday Amelia. My love for you will never break.” I just can’t with these babes. To fathom how perfectly this family has pieced together is proof enough of the kindness of God. This little boy absolutely adores his sister—her best friend and companion the last four years and one of my favorite relationships to watch grow.

We had quite the full day planned, so presents came first!! This girl is so easy to please, so even a box full of tiny presents that will fit into her luggage were all the best in her eyes.

And then, as the sweetest gift to maybe her Mama, our church actually had already planned a festival/open house for the school ministry we have through CBC, so...Amelia got to attend a festival party with all her friends on her birthday!!

Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about!
They played and ate and danced and jumped.
A special and yet typical day in the life of Amelia. She’s our constantly on the go, always flipping, always singing, always bounding and swimming and laughing and playing and riding and cheering little girl. She’s truly something special, our Millie.

When we got home, she celebrated even more when the ice cream truck came singing down our street! She got a giant cone AND didn’t have to take a nap (because six year olds don’t have to take naps every day in our home)!! The perfect red cherry to the end of the sweetest day!
We adore you. We love you. We are so thankful for you. That God would specifically gift you to us, we are in awe. You are a treasure, my most delicate and sensitive and thoughtful little mini me. You fill me with a love I could never have anticipated and continually bless me in the day to day as you help me become more like Christ and less like myself. I am crazy about your six year old life, Amelia Lynn. Thank you for being flexible, easy to please, and a smile that doesn’t quickly fade. Happy birthday to my sweetest girl.
And yes, on your sixth birthday, we put candles in your steak instead of in your cake. And it was hilarious and silly and totally appropriate in our celebration of you. Next year, we’ll hopefully think better of letting your tastebuds run wild the ENTIRE day so that you can actually enjoy the cake prepared for you AFTER supper!
