The Sixth Year of Amelia
And then, she was six.
SIX!!!
And truly, it’s been the richest, most full and joyful six years of our lives. In no way could we have ever anticipated such a rewarding gift that has been Amelia’s life. She has brought us an infinite amount of love and tenderness and joy and laughter. She’s been our trailblazer, my sweetest helper, the best big sister, the greatest of friends, and the easiest babe to teach and raise. Goodness, Amelia. I can’t even begin to understand the overwhelming amount of love I have for you.
Yesterday, she woke up to balloons and a card from her brother. He wrote to her, “Happy birthday Amelia. My love for you will never break.” I just can’t with these babes!! To fathom how perfectly this family has pieced together is proof enough of the kindness of God. This little boy absolutely adores his sister—her best friend and companion the last four years and one of my favorite relationships to watch grow.

We had quite the full day planned, so presents came first!! This girl is so easy to please, so even a box full of tiny presents that will fit into her Japanese-bound luggage were all the best in her eyes.

And then, as the sweetest gift to maybe her Mama, our church actually had already planned a festival/open house for the school ministry we have through CBC, so...Amelia got to attend a festival party with all her friends on her birthday!! No planning for Mommy!! She got to play games, jump on inflatable toys, eat THREE snow cones, hula hoop, swing, and all with her very best friends. It was the perfect afternoon of fun and sunshine, and such a blessing to our big little girl.

Molly approved, even!
She’s a gentle, quiet, shy little girl with a gigantic heart. But once she’s comfortable, she comes right out of her shell and makes her presence known with the most beautiful smile and adorable giggle. She loves dancing and singing and flipping and learning. She’s an impressive gymnast, a wicked smart student, a caring sister, a reliable friend, an obedient daughter, and most importantly, so inquisitive and curious about the faith her Mommy and Daddy share. She likes unicorns, açaí bowls, riding bikes, swinging, lollipops, braiding hair, playing babies, small animals, coloring, makeup, swimming, shopping, fishing, board games, stuffed animals, and all the cuddles.
And ESPECIALLY ice cream!
And as if her day couldn’t have gotten any better, not only did she get to have her friend stay the night, but the ice cream truck also came to our neighborhood and she got her pick of any cone on the truck! A dream come true!

But then we realized that after three snow cones, a giant ice cream cone, popcorn, and candy...a slice of birthday pie was basically just not an option. SO, we promised her Oreo pie cake the following night and instead sang “Happy Birthday” with her candles in her supper steak! Couldn’t have written it up better myself!

Oh Amelia. You are truly one of a kind. We absolutely adore you and cherish you and are so thankful for you. What a blessing you’ve been already—far greater than I could’ve ever known. I am humbled to be your mommy and pray that as you grow older by the day, God will grant you new life through Jesus Christ and direct you in the pursuit of serving, honoring, and glorifying the King of Kings. There is nothing greater I could desire or ask for your life. He is the ultimate satisfaction and the reason I am able to love you the way I do.
Happy Sixth Birthday, Amelia! You do something to my heart that nobody else can; what a unique and beautiful child you are. I am endlessly thankful for the ability God has given me to celebrate you and hope you know just how much I love you. Cheers to the new adventures of a six-year-old!
