Day 2,329

The Excessive Energy

We woke up late, finished breakfast at 10, got ready, and sped to my midwife appointment, skipping school but excited to hear the Little Babe in Mom's tum (29 weeks!). Once there, we were informed that they'd tried to contact my cellphone multiple times to say that I needed to reschedule due to a labor in progress at the birthing center. But, my phone. Oh, Apple. Turns out my phone is one of a very small number of phones that exist with a very particular and un-fixable solution without it being totally replaced. And so, I've not had a working phone for 5 days (sorry if you've texted me and I haven't replied), which means I didn't receive the midwives' phone calls. We had our appointment anyways, but because we wanted to respect the birthing Mama, Adam took the kids to the car for the duration of my appointment. Once home, we tried making lunch, only to find out that our oven's main control operating system is totally busted. Randomly. A $350-$400 repair on a stove we can currently purchase for $548. So, that's one new phone and one new oven in the making? In the same day. Not kidding. At least the phone is being replaced free of charge. And at least there's plenty of Black Friday sales already going on at Home Depot. After sandwiches were eaten, it was nap time, followed by an Apple appointment at 4:30, a turkey pick up at 5:30, and a chiropractor appointment at 5:45. And with no oven at home to prepare supper on, we took our energy-saturated kids out to eat, hoping they'd forgive us for the never ending day of appointments. Once home, we told them that they could literally do whatever they wanted to get their energy out. We spent an hour on our bed tickle fighting and wrestling, with actually some luck at reducing their jitters. Thankful right now for forgiving, flexible kids, for time without my phone, and for a broken stove that makes me realize just how grateful I should be for my ability to prepare healthy meals in my own home. Here's to nothing else breaking!
