The Memories on The Memorial
9/11 in NYC.
When our special helicopter flight with Uncle Jeremy was cancelled yesterday morning due to the memorial services at Ground Zero, we held our crying kids and tried to explain to them why we couldn’t fly. Safe in our hotel room, we gave them the most basic details while guarding their innocence with great care. At the park that day, it occurred to me that the families enjoying this same day 17 years ago didn’t necessarily have that same allowance, as evil gripped the city right in front of their children, who’s innocence was robbed of them before their parents’ eyes.

It was a sobering moment.
But also one that came with the reminder that evil and sin may rule the world now, but it won’t always be that way. Christ promises that. He’s coming again with a sword and will destroy evil.

And so, we remember the lives lost on that tragic and hateful day, we lift those up who served without hesitation, and we now look forward with urgency to the task before us, which is bringing the lifesaving message of Christ to those perishing among us, no matter the cost. Because truly, tomorrow just isn’t promised.

With their inability to understand the reasoning behind canceling our helicopter flight over the city, we cheered up our babes’ sad faces with the realization they’d be going to the zoo instead! Oh, what fun!!

We had a lovely day exploring the Central Park Zoo and the tiny sliver of New York we were able to experience - especially the popsicle stand on the walking path. If only they had these at every corner at home!

And our napcap was highlighted by Dad’s 1.2 inning appearance and hold in last night’s win over the Mets, in which he tossed his hardest ever recorded velocity at 98.8 MPH! The kids went wild with excitement seeing their daddy so close and definitely gave away our position as the visiting pitcher’s family. With three screaming kids hollering, “PUNCH HIM OUT DAD,” that’ll happen.

And then, best of all...
And then, best of all...
While Dad was pitching, the hitter fouled a ball to the chair directly in front of us...and look who managed to push away all the big men around him scrambling for it, coming out the victor. Bearett!!! He scrapped for the ball with an intensity I’ve not yet seen before and got it all by himself. No help and nobody gave it to him out of pity. STUD! His first foul ball ever and even better, one that Daddy pitched! Can’t make this stuff up!
