The Daddy's Burday
"Hatta burday to you. Hatta burday to you. Hatta burday dear Dada!! Hatta burday to you! Dad, you get me pwesent?"
We woke up and sung Daddy the song he hates most, but he put up with it because he loves us so much. Dad's not one for birthdays, but Mom and Millie are, so he doesn't get a say! Yesterday was a little hard - we were extra bummed not to have him here to celebrate with us and missed him even more than we already do. Partly because we really like cake. But mostly because he's quite easily our favorite person on the planet and we love him more than anyone except Jesus. His life is marked by sacrifice. He's always working for us, serving us, helping us, protecting us, leading us. He always gives and rarely takes. He's a gentleman and daily shows Amelia what it is that a man looks like. A Godly man. Because that's the only kind there is. He's a rare find and our dearest treasure. We're crazy about you, Dada. And we're thankful every day that the Lord chose you to be the man we look to for love, guidance, hugs, discipline, and truth. You're a blessing to so many, but mostly to us. Hatta burday, Daddy. You are the actual best.
Love, Mama, Millie, and Ella Mae
Not wanting to miss out on a reason to celebrate, we decided that on such a special day - Dad's 27th - Amelia would taste test her first ever beignet (pronounced bin-yay)!!! Clearly, she was absolutely thankful for such a special day and loved her NOLA donuts just as much as her Mama!
And since it took us an entire 32 minutes to get from the hotel to Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter, we decided to get our car ride's worth and spent the afternoon watching all the weirdness that is NOLA up close. Well, Amelia and I watched. Ella Mae just mostly slept. As per usual.
While she snoozed, we saw painters, and singers, and statues, and horses, and trains, and jazz bands, and puppies wearing sunglasses, and men in kilts with leather suspenders. I'm pretty sure Amelia was culture shocked. Even though she probably has no idea what culture even is. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure she at least was a little entertained. But just like her Mama, one time in the French Quarter was enough. Good thing they have another Cafe du Monde right down the street from us!
And as if she wasn't all ready dirty enough from her trip to the French Quarter, Amelia got "home" and decided to pee in her pants and onto the bath mat right before supper. Because why not, right? And so, she sat in the shower for a solid half hour "washing her undies," while I worked out and made dinner.

Hatta Burday to you Dada! Hope you feel loved and know that we'd have had a bajillion times more fun if you'd been here!
