The Eighth Marlins Start
Citi Field.
A seven mile, hour long, EIGHTY FIVE DOLLAR Uber ride from the hotel during rush hour.
I wanted to shoot someone.
Bang bang.
You've GOT to be kidding me.
Maybe that's why guns are illegal to carry there.
And MAYBE that's why they should have better ramp and elevator access to their subway stations. How am I supposed to subway with a stroller - alone - up multiple flights of stairs and no ramp?!
Grrrrrr. I'm still flaming angry about it, clearly.
But I guess the 85 bucks was worth it...only because Adam completely shoved last night!
And for the record, guns should be legal to carry there, of course.
It was a marvelous night for baseball.
Adam Conley vs. Bartolo Colon.
Rookie vs. long-time veteran.
We were excited. Anxious. And I was nervous, of course. Actually, I felt like I was going to puke the whole game. I cried most of the morning, as I couldn't - for the life of me - figure out how to watch Adam's entire start and travel to Washington DC from NYC for their next series all in the same night. I was a mess. Such a mess. But Adam? Adam was far from messy. Thank goodness one of us was functioning at optimal levels!
Sidenote:
Before the start of the game, I saw my maiden name on the back of a jersey (Willie Mays, yes?) and immediately thought of my dad. I had an early premonition that the game would be a good one, but I didn't know how good.
Adam went into yesterday's game with a bit of a different approach. He was told to go out there holding nothing back, regardless of where that put him innings-wise. So he did.
In the first inning, he touched 96 and struck out two.
And it just kept getting better and better from then on out.
Amelia was cheering the whole time.
And when the section attendant handed her a Mets sticker, she did what any good Marlins fan would do and chewed him right up. I took a picture of her munching on the Mets and posted to my Instagram, "Amelia is chewing up the Mets. Hoping Dada follows suit!" Well, that he did!
I guess the cameraman was just as interested in my family's Mets chewing as I was!
Adam pitched a tremendous game.
Finally, a glimpse of everything coming together, especially against one
of baseball's hottest teams. The Mets stacked their entire lineup with all righties. Not a single left-handed hitter was to face Adam. And still, he found a way to succeed. He pitched seven scoreless innings, with...
A base hit!
A single off Colon!
"Adam making Amelia jump for joy!"
He left the game after seven strong, shutout innings.
His best start of his MLB career.
7IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB (!!!!), 6K, the W, a hit, 99 total pitches and 96MPH in the 1st!
He's 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA
The Fish won 6-0!!!
Good job Dad!
We're SO proud of you.
(Even though Amelia's failed attempt at a smile doesn't appear very proud-ish. Ha!)
