The Hogwarts DC Express
Maybe it wasn't technically as magical as Platform 9 3/4, but to us it sure was!
Our first EVER Amtrak experience was incredible! By far, our new favorite way to travel! Leg room, cozy seats, open seats, plug ins, access to stroller...yes please!! So much room to stretch and play!
Amelia says, "good job Mama, this is great!"
After such difficulty surrounding the travel plans following Adam's previous start, I was relieved to finally sit down and play with my baby for a few non-stressful hours. The morning of his start in NYC, I still hadn't locked down a travel plan for Amelia and I to get to DC. And because the game started at 7, every feasible option became impossible. I cried all morning. It was pathetic. But I didn't want to miss Adam's start.
The explanation of my tears:
The last train leaving Penn Station departed at 10PM, meaning I'd have to leave Citi Field at 8:45. I booked the ticket anyways, thinking it could work. Impossible. I couldn't leave such an exciting game while Adam threw! Renting a car would've cost an arm and a leg and taken me 5 hours through 17 different toll stations. No. Staying another night in a hotel would've cost me two arms and four legs. No. Just no. $1,500/night? Is this real life? A personal driver. No. I just...no. And riding on the team train...hahahaha. No shot.
Nonetheless, we found a way! Praise God!
A friend of Adam's has lived in NYC for 3 years now and she offered for Amelia and I to stay the night with her and her roommates! So, the five of us took the subway to their apartment, where Amelia and I stayed the night! We woke up yesterday at 11, got ready, left their apartment at 1 and still had to rush to the train station for a 2 o'clock train. My Uber ride only cost me 13 dollars though! That might've been due to the fact that I cut our ride 6 blocks short and sprinted to Penn Station because traffic was at a stand-still.
We showed up to our platform with minutes to spare and drenched in sweat. But hey, we made it, right?!
And once we were settled, we enjoyed every second of our 4 hour ride to DC!
Hi from the train station, Papa!! We know you'd love seeing a photo of Millie's first ride, after 40 years working SO HARD on the railroad!
We made it.
We're exhausted (again).
And I'm pretty sure I'll do (mostly) anything not to ever live in New York City if I can help it! Ha!
