Day One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty-Five

The Word Doable Never Stretched So Far

Soooo...
My life as of yesterday:
I'm 39 weeks, 2 days pregnant. My condo is on the market to be sold and my husband starts Spring Training on Friday. Doable. Totally doable. It gets better though. With Adam's addition to the 40-man roster (praise God!), this spring is starting out different than it ever has. From Tuesday until Thursday, Adam and the rest of the 40-man are in Miami serving the local community as part of Marlins Auydan Week - a program dedicated to making Miami a great place to live. All week, they'll be serving and volunteering in the community as a sign of their love and appreciation to the people around them. It's an incredible program, an exciting way to give back, and Adam is honored to be a part of the vision in creating a difference.

With events beginning Tuesday night and ending Thursday evening, Adam and I were left in a pickle: leave Kendall home or take Kendall with? Stay in the comfort of home or stay in the arms of Daddy? Well, turns out, it wasn't too hard of a decision. So, we both packed our bags...I take that back...we all packed our bags (Baby Girl's bag too) and prepared for a trip to Miami. With her due date being so close, we really had no choice. Leaving a potentially laboring wife 90 miles away without a truck (not that I could drive during labor anyways) made zero sense. Which meant: I spent the day cleaning the house (remember, it's on the market, so it's constantly being viewed and has to be perfectly cleaned), running errands (if the baby does come, the truck needed to be washed and vacuumed!), organizing our bags (my birth bag, her birth bag, dad's birth bag, dad's gear bag, the food bag, and the travel bag), and (together) INSTALLING THE CARSEAT (that was surreal). Still, totally doable. Flexibility is the name of the baseball game, and as long as we're together, we can manage just about anything.

Except mean people. And traffic. Both are on my poop list.
So, we were all packed up and ready to go, and sure enough, Adam comes inside to get me with a curious look on his face. "Did you hit something while driving the truck today?" EXCUSE ME? No, of course I didn't! I would've told you immediately, Hon! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? He then proceeded to show me a HUGE scrape along the fender of the driver's side back tire. Like, two feet of white scrape...all across it. That's when the blood started pumping. It started boiling about 10 minutes later....why are people so rude?!!!
With the only two possibilities of the car wash being to blame or the Publix parking lot, we decided that the most likely place it would've gotten hit was at the car wash. So, we called them and headed there to file a report. It was 3:20 at this point. Adam needed to be in Miami by 6. Great timing, right? Insert sarcasm. Four miles, a train, a car wreck, police everywhere, a faulty light, traffic like I've never seen, school release, and 45 minutes later, Adam and I still hadn't made it to the stupid car wash and couldn't risk being late to Miami in order to file the report. Cool. We'll just pay for the damage ourself, Mean Person Without Any Moral Compass. Ever seen a pregnant girl mad? Adam has. So we turned around and got onto the freeway. And whaddya know...it's 5 o'clock and Miami traffic is a nightmare. Horrible. THE WORST THING EVER. Not only are there just so many cars, the lanes are impossibly small, and in that area, I-95 happens to be the most deadly freeway in the country. If a tranquilizer were an option, I would've readily accepted one. Pregnant driving - actually any driving - in the Miami area is an evil, evil specimen. If/when we ever don a Miami uniform, I'll remember to find a condo in the safest and closest vicinity to the ballpark as possible. Uh! Ok, so yeah, crunched for time and not wanting to be late to his first event as a rostered player, Adam and I drove to a gas station near his Ayudan event instead of driving to the hotel first (like we had planned). Why? Because Adam hadn't done his hair that day, had just sweated profusely, and needed a place to freshen up before meeting a bunch of people who probably didn't want to smell his BO or look at his greasy mop.

By the time we got to the Hard Rock, we were both grumpy (to put it lightly...very lightly). And then I was sad...because everything about the HRC reminds me of my dad. So then, I was mad and sad and WE COULDN'T FIND THE ENTRANCE to the particular part of the casino he needed to go to...and then I was ready to quit. This close. But I didn't. Because Adam eventually found the place, I dropped him off, picked up Panera, went to the hotel, ate my food, watched a show, felt the baby kick...

...and finally, Adam came "home" with this, alongside a tired smile and some fond memories of the iHeartRadio event he attended, which made every second of yesterday's miserable day...you guessed it...doable.

We're grateful to be here in Miami, but definitely, I could go the rest of my life without another day like yesterday, doable or not.
Can I just have our baby already?

And I REALLY shouldn't have to say this, but I will anyways...
If you hit a car - or damage anything that costs money to repair because of YOUR doing - do everyone a favor and admit your fault. Because when it happens to you, you're going to want justice - or at least an explanation of what the heck happened while you were gone.
