The End (or is it the Beginning?) is Near!
Hello Third Trimester, officially.
I've been waiting for you!
Every week, my phone alerts me to where we are in this 40-week journey, and as of yesterday, we're in the home stretch! Ahhhh!! SO exciting! I'm shocked by how fast it's already gone by, but we're getting anxious to meet this little one and can't wait for her arrival.
With the introduction into your third trimester, a 28-week appointment is scheduled...and that means: the Glucola test for Gestational Diabetes. Nooooooo! I had absolutely zero intention of drinking that awful orange drink, so I asked my midwife if there were any alternatives (already knowing there was at least one) and she said, "Yep, just eat 26 Jelly Bellys an hour before your blood's drawn...and eat them all in 5 minutes." That's my kind of test, baby! Sign me up!
(Only, because I chose Trader Joe's version of the jelly bean instead, I had to eat *ahem* SIXTY-ONE beans in five minutes to get the same 50g of sugar that 26 Jelly Bellys contain...which...sounded like the best thing ever at the time...until my jaw began to hurt and my belly - and head - began to ache. Uh. Sugar overload for this momma...but at least it tasted good! Now I'm just hoping that my Insulin reacted better to the sugar than my head, jaw, and tummy did!)
At 28 weeks, they also offer the DTap vaccine, and if you're RH-, they inject you with a shot called Rhogam. Unless you deny them. Which doesn't happen often, but that's the decision we made. More on that later (I want to be complete and transparent in our choices - because I feel obligated to share what we've been learning over the past few months - but we've been up for 22 hours, just finally got to our hotel room in Colorado Springs, and are completely exhausted).
__________
12 MORE WEEKS, SWEETHEART!!
