Day One Thousand and Twenty-Seven

The Fourth of July Grill Masters

We were on our own for the Fourth. Just a coupla Zephyrs wives without any husbands, trying to salvage the day's celebration. The boys left to Memphis on a bus (not a sleeper bus) after Thursday's game around midnight. They arrived to their hotel at 6:30 AM and played that night -The Fourth of July - while we sat in NOLA, 7 hours away.

Not wanting the distance of our men to spoil the night, Marci and I decided to do the most American thing we could think of: so, we grilled! ALL BY OURSELVES! We didn't burn the place down, we didn't scorch our food, and we didn't disappoint! Beginners luck, maybe, but hot dang those steaks and chickens were gooooood! Proof that we're sorta self-sufficient after all! Go wives! However, having grilled now without any help, I'd still prefer not to work the barbecue if I don't have to!

And finally, we topped off the night with a simple little touch of chocolate-almond-butter fondue! Merica!

It was a happy Fourth, indeed! Even without the fireworks or our handsome men. Though, both would've been welcomed additions.
