The Eleventh Zephyr Start(ish)
What's going on:
The Zephyrs currently have 7 starting pitchers.
The All-Star Break begins today.
Four of the seven starters still needed to pitch before the break.
Adam was one of those starters.
So, the Zephyrs had no choice but to do what's called "piggy-back starting," two games in a row. This avoids a long break from starting pitchers facing hitters live. We're not sure how the rotation will look once the break is over, but Adam ended up getting his work in as the second "starting pitcher" of yesterday's game.
He threw three innings - the seventh, eighth, and ninth - and though he still hasn't quite been himself on the mound since returning from the DL, he did make some improvements. His velocity is down right now and because of this, it's causing a smaller separation between his fastball and his off speed pitches. This isn't ideal, but Adam says that he learns the most about pitching when his stuff isn't as good. So there's definitely a silver lining in this. Hopefully soon though, he'll put it all together, see a jump in his velo, and start to feel like himself again.
His line:
3IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 1HR
And three broken bats in the first inning, but who's counting.
