The Roses of His Third Start
"A rose for how much I loved you yesterday, a rose for how much I love you today, and a rose for how much more I will love you tomorrow. Love Adam"
I honestly was dreading Wednesday. After Tuesday's letdown...and the fact that Adam was pitching Wednesday, I was just bummed. I went to hot yoga class, ran some errands, and tried my best to occupy the hours between morning and night. I know. Pathetic. But I wasn't expecting to be here, so I hadn't made any plans (I think I might get a job...or find somewhere to volunteer...I just need something to do). Anyways, I had just finished cooking up lunch when I got a call from the concierge. "You have a nice delivery waiting for you downstairs." Uhhh. What? For me? Great! I rounded the corner and there they were. A vase of roses. I read the note and immediately started gushing. I cried all the way up the elevator, smiling big through the tears.
I am so thankful for a husband who makes me feel apart of a journey that so many are quick to label as only his. In baseball, it's all too easy for a wife to lose her identity. But Adam has always always done his best to include me in everything. And I couldn't ask for anything more from him. Yesterday, will be etched into my memory forever. It was the sweetest, most simple gesture, but it meant so much to me. I love you, sweetheart. Thank you for being so aware of my needs, even from 350 miles away.
With my smile back and my heart a little lighter, I made my way downstairs (to the free Internet) to watch my hubby's third start. Can I just say THANK YOU Double A for recording the games. What a treasure! Though bummed that I wasn't right behind home plate watching from my usual perch, this wasn't a such a bad substitute. I've never seen Adam throw from this angle, so it was kind of neat (haha) to experience. The only problem though: he couldn't hear me from the couch screaming, "THROW STRIKES ADAM!" I think last night, he could have benefited from hearing my screams from the stands. Hahahaha. Because he didn't have such a good game. In fact, he said that this was maybe one of his worst starts in a long time. Not in the way of hits and runs, but that he couldn't - for the life of him - hit his spots. None of them. Yikes. Lots and lots of balls. And we don't like balls in this family! Hahaha :) But he managed his way through four innings with this line:
4 IP, 2H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 3K
Not good. Not terrible. But definitely not Adam. Can't wait to have him back home!
