The Daddy Day
I'll just come right out and say it: I didn't pack a single box today. And though that's a big reason why I came to Seattle when I did, I decided that just one day hanging out with my dad wouldn't hurt anyone. Plus, my brother already packed an outrageous amount of the house anyways...which I wasn't expecting! Awesome job, Jacob! So, instead of spending the day with empty cardboard boxes as my company, I spent it with my Dad. I arrived in Woodinville at midnight, after a slightly delayed flight and long lines in baggage claim. I was so tired. And pretty sick too. But my head wouldn't meet my pillow until 2 AM Pacific Standard Time. That's 5 AM my time. I was beat. And my morning reflected that quite clearly. Dad and I made plans to go to church at 11:15, but that didn't happen, as both of us were still in bed at 10:30. So, we decided on the 5 o'clock service at Mars Hill Church, and with the hours in between, we went grocery shopping together. Then ate some Chipotle, made dinner early, and got some coffee.
I can't remember the last time my dad and I were at church together. It's been years. And so, I asked him if he'd go with me. He (obviously) said yes. And for the entire day, I was excited at what tonight might bring. I'd visited Mars Hill once before, but never at this specific Shoreline campus. It was wonderful. Being there with my dad was something special. We stood next to each other, singing, listening, laughing, and learning, as Pastor Mark Driscoll gave a sermon on the first 9 verses of Esther. Dad said he really enjoyed his time tonight. I did too. I can feel the Lord at work already. And I've only been here 20 hours.
I had a wonderful time with you today Kendall! Thank you for getting me back in church!
