Day Three Hundred and Thirty-Three

The Best Traveling Buddy

My riding partner is baaaaack!! Alejandra and I haven't taken an overnight road trip together since arriving in Florida this June....8 starts ago. Obviously, this is in stark contrast with Greensboro, when we were together 24/7. And I miss that! Here in the Florida State League though, the farthest away series we travel to is 3 1/2 hours Northwest...in Alejandra's hometown of Tampa. We've gone there twice now, so both of the times, she rode with Jose and stayed at home! (Lucky duck! I wish I was able to see my family that often!) One of the teams we play against is the Cardinals' Hi A team...who shares our home field...so no hotel or traveling is necessary for that series! And then, the other teams we've played recently are, at most, 2 hours away. So really, we haven't had many opportunities to road trip together like we used to! It's bittersweet, definitely, but this afternoon was a nice change of pace. We drove directly West to Fort Myers and got to watch the sun set right in front of us through the messy windshield of spattered bug guts. At one point in the drive, I asked Alejandra if it was raining (it was dark by then)? She said no, just like I had expected. No, not rain. Bugs. That sound of rain hitting the windshield was actually bugs. We were hitting so many at a time that I had mistaken it originally for rain. I'm not kidding. I couldn't believe my ears.

Adam always rides the bus to and from the field, even though it's not technically required of him. He just doesn't like to do anything differently than what the rest of the team does. And I do respect him for that decision, even when it's super late and all I want to do is drive together to the hotel with my husband! Well, tonight, I got to our room a bit before Adam and the bus arrived. And this is what I walked into. He's spent only one day alone here and it's already a mess! :) I told him tonight that he's the sort of man that needs a wife. And I'm so grateful that he chose me to fulfill that role! I absolutely love taking care of Adam. Even if that includes folding his clothes and sorting his dirty laundry.

At 11:00, we all finally sat down for dinner. Well, for me, dessert. I just ordered ice cream and chocolate sauce! TGIF Friday's is one of the only restaurants open past 10 PM, so by default, we ended up there! The food is always good, and our company, even better! I really love this part about baseball. It's exciting meeting people from all sorts of different backgrounds, with unique stories, and varying interests of their own. We've met a so many - most of all whom we adore - and love that we've gotten to share our story with them in return. It's an interesting lifestyle, but we've embraced it fully, and couldn't imagine it any other way.
