The Rare Writer
That's me, eaten' Chic-Fil-A, watching baseball, reading the paper. Man stuff.
Those are gray skies, a lot of lightning (not pictured) and thunder (not visible by the human eye). And that is the Tampa Bay Rays' Spring Training Facility. I was preparing for my start as usual and was seconds away from walking outside to start my on-field pre-game routine, when my pitching coach Joe Coleman (look him up) came in and said we were delayed. Coming from the Northwest, this was no abnormality to me. I felt at home with this news and put my preparation on hold while I stayed focused. After several trips outside to check the weather, and watching lightning strike in the distance, it was announced that the game was cancelled. I hurried to stretch, throw, do my bands, and light dumbbell exercises (commonly used as a recovery for baseball players arms). I proceeded to my cardio, and ice. I then showered and changed, and waited for Kendall to come get me. The team bus was long gone by then.
Speaking of the bus, ours has no air conditioning. Neither does our clubhouse. For those of you reading form the West coast, FLorida is hot, and humid. Get 35 people on a small bus with no AC, in 95 degree weather with a heat index making it feel like 110, and you sweat from your shins. Similarly, the clubhouse was quite humid and "stagnant" with no fans and no circulation. We have a saying in the minor leagues, and it is thrown around a lot in situations like this, "if you don't like it, play better."
That is a burger from Applebee's, primarily containing fat and grease. I didn't eat all of it, but my boneless wings were delicious. Topped it off with a Mcdonald's milkshake, and went "home" to hydrate and get some sleep!
That is a healthy normal left ankle, and a swollen bug-bitten right ankle. After the last game in Fort Myers, Kendall waited outside to say bye before we left for Port Charlotte. Unfortunately, when she had the windows down something like ten minutes, mosquitos found their way into the truck. While driving, she got eaten alive and before she realized what was happening, it was too late. Poor girl, I'm sorry honey! I still love your swollen bug bitten ankle though!
And one comment from Kendall:
I had to chime in.
It's important.
In one more month, Adam and I will have been married for ONE YEAR!!
Today marks 11 months of Conley marriage!
Wahoo!
