Day Two Hundred and Fifty-Eight

The Tenth Game

After TEN games, I finally got the picture Adam's been begging me for. Ok, that's a lie. Adam doesn't beg. But he's asked a few times for a photo with him releasing the ball. Truth be told, with my little camera, it's proven a very difficult task! (Someday, I'll have a really nice one!!) But after only like 6 tries tonight...ta-da! Perfection!

In 87 pitches tonight and 5 innings, Adam recorded 7 K's, 1 hit, 1 earned run, and the W. And 5 walks. Yes, five. For the first time in his entire baseball career, five men reached base on 4 balls. Adam was most upset by this. He hates walking people, and in fact, told me tonight that he'd rather have given up five dingers (that means homeruns) than the 5 walks. Aside from a very unusual result, he did work a lot differently tonight, as he tried incorporating more off speed pitches into his mix. This is good news! He's always relied so heavily on his fastball (for good reason), but the Marlins are quite insistent on the development of his slider. So, he threw it. Along with some really impressive changeups...and two curveballs! (And I'll add this just because it is true...the umpires were garbage tonight. And no, I'm not biased!)

To soothe my nerves, my butterflies, and my jitters, all which are increasingly distracting during Adam's games, I treated myself to a swirl ice cream cone. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed one of these most delicious treats. Mmmm. Reminds me of 8th grade and going to Steer Inn after school at St. Pat's. Good memories.
