Day Two Hundred and Fifty-Seven

The Husband's First Married Birthday!

It turns out that birthdays on the road aren't the easiest to celebrate. I think I saw Adam for maybe 2 hours in total today, but the ones that I did get to spend with him were irreplaceable. The warmest, most sincere "Happy Birthday" goes out to my twenty-two year old husband and best friend. I hope that even in the midst of double headers and dingy hotel rooms that you still managed to enjoy such a lovely day. I remember my 22nd year...it was one of the best I can remember. That's the year I met my "Messy," and the year I fell madly in love with the man I'd one day call "Husband." I pray that Adam finds the same love and joy this year as I did then. I love you, Sweetheart. I'm so lucky that you chose me to be the one who wishes you your first "happy birthday" year after beautiful year.

So, I'm not the best birthday gift-giver. Especially to men. They always want "nothing." At least with a woman you can buy her clothes, or makeup, or jewelry, or shoes, or massages, or pedicures, or really, anything for that matter. Guys just aren't like that. At least not my husband. And so, with "nothing" on the list, and little to go off, I decided a card would be a good start. I found the perfect one, laughed, and knew what my next step would be. The card reads:
"Today's your birthday and we should do special birthday things like eat pie and swear."
Romantic, right?! I thought it was adorable, especially since neither of us entertain profanity in our vocabularies. Instead, we say things like, "Dag gummit!" Whenever he hears me utter this phrase, he tells me sternly, "Honey, watch your mouth!!" And then we giggle. So, to keep up with the card, I created this masterpiece of a pie.

An hour later, it looked like this. Masterpiece, demolished. At least I was smart enough to capture a "pre-present-giving" photo. And although it looks horrifically ugly, man, did it taste good! DAG GUMMIT!

From across the stands, I zoomed in on the birthday boy for a little photo shoot that he had no idea he was apart of. Wow. God blessed me with one handsome man. Incredible.

You know yawning's contagious, right? Quit that! (Still, so cute!)

Ah, my favorite! I love seeing him smile.

The cheesecake creation managed to only get uglier as it sat in the tiny hotel room refrigerator. But, like a good and honest husband, he was more than happy and excited to eat it! I couldn't dream of a better friend. He's one incredible man and someone I look up to tremendously. Praise God for putting Adam into my life! Happy 22nd birthday, Sweetheart!

One last thing. Ok, maybe two:
1) Adam pitches tomorrow at 7 PM EST against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Tune in if you want to hear what awesomeness sounds like ;)
2) This is what I wrote to Adam last year on his birthday. (It's long, but I'm not apologizing!)
