Day Two Hundred and Six

The Meet and Greet

Hey everyone its Olympia’s own, Grasshopper! Today was a lot of things. My day at the field began around 12:30pm and ended around 9:30pm.

Before leaving today, Kendall wanted to make sure I remembered to take pictures of what I see everyday when I go to work. Unbeknownst to me, today was the annual “meet and greet.” I didn’t know what it was, and had never heard about it until about 2 hours before it started. I was under the impression that this “meet and greet” was an opportunity for the players to meet the front office type people, boosters, and season ticket holders. Although those were the main demographics, Kendall could have come and seen first hand what goes on at Newbridge Bank Park. By the time I snuck downstairs to text her to come, it was too late for her to make it in time, as it was ending in 20 minutes (our apt. is about 15 minutes driving distance). Once I decided not to text her, I went to the field for our practice at 7. After I made it to the field, an announcement was made that the boosters and other people were welcome to stay and watch the practice…shoot I could have texted her after all.

Once practice was over, I showered and let Kendall know I was done, but for some reason, I expected her to come and pick me up as she did the day before. After half an hour had gone by I texted her again checking to see if she was coming. She explained to me how she thought I was taking the team van back to the apartments, and I realized my mistake, I didn’t ask for a ride, but was expecting one. Frustrating. After a Long day I’m back “home” and happy to be with my wife to relax for the night. We’re learning a lot every day about the characteristics of my job, and growing together.

Also, today I wanted to have a little extra fun so I asked my pitching coach if he wanted to watch me throw the ball over the fence. He said no, but standing on the left field foul line, I threw the ball over the right center field fence, grabbed a new ball and finished up my throwing program. After all these years of throwing a ball, I still get a kick out of letting one rip and watching it fly. It’s the simple things in life folks!
