The Cirque De Marlin
Hey everyone, it's Adam again! Spring Training 2012 has officially begun. I started my day off right at 4AM, made a pot of coffee, ate a small breakfast, and headed out for my first day of Breakfast Club. My endeavors at Washington State, and the seemingly never-ending conditioning sessions our strength coach put us through, left me more than prepared to attack today. I started with 20 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on an elliptical, and 20 minutes on the seated bike. Following these exercises JP (John Pierson, the Miami Marlins Field Coordinator) ran me through his ab routine.
Taking baseball seriously in all facets has proven effective for me, and I can't say anything different about my early morning conditioning. Studying the mental game of baseball has taught me to embrace all adversity and use my brain to insist I continue, rather than having thoughts like "has it been a minute yet?" when doing say, flutter kicks or something. We've all had those.
Today however had it's hiccups. A few days ago the schedule changed, and I did not check the board the day before. This resulted in Breakfast Club. Lately, I have been diligent about being punctual. After I ate my second breakfast this morning, I left to the field around 8:15AM to give myself plenty of time for a 9AM meeting. When I arrived at the field around 8:20AM, I noticed a group of players already dressed and taking their vertical leap test. I was at the Marlins facility earlier that morning and, as I always do now, checked the board. There was, however, no mention of a vertical leap test. I showed up 40 minutes early and was last to test my vertical. Marlins don't have thumbs and can't make a phone call apparently, so I remained unaware of the situation until I showed up. Other players felt similarly. I suppose I'll show up 2 hours early to everything now and just assume I'm 15 minutes late, I guess.
On a more positive note, I have a bullpen tomorrow and another Live BP soon after. I'm not much of a complainer, I just had to justify my title folks! 100+ minor league baseball players on 4 fields is a bit of a Circus if you don't pay attention. I'm learning.
Kendall's love language is gift giving. Disclaimer: she just likes knowing I'm thinking about her. Much like her husband, she knows that our God who loves us is our highest prize! All that said, I left her this note this morning while she was catching some ZZZZZZZZ's.
"Columbian peasants got up at 4AM this morning to make this fresh pot of coffee for you baby!"
