The Book Keepers
This is what Adam's job looks like when he isn't pitching. For 3 hours, he gets a chance to work on his reading and writing skills: he reads off the radar and writes down the velocity. And, if his wife is good to him, he gets to work on his eating skills too! ;)
Like every Spring Training day, Adam leaves in the morning around 7:30, and until 11:30, he's out on the field practicing. Games begin at 1:00, and unless he's pitching that day, his job is to chart the entire game. Every time a Marlin pitcher throws the ball, the velocity, action, type, and location of the pitch is recorded. This responsibility isn't taken lightly, as it's an integral part of baseball. These charts offer valuable information that help both the coaches and the players understand the game better. So, even if its monotony is overwhelming and even boring at times, Adam gladly accepts his role.
As for me: today I got burnt to a crisp. The sun finally came out from behind the clouds, and I jumped at the opportunity to catch some rays. Well, between sun bathing and baseball watching, I now resemble something of a lobster. Yes, I've applied aloe and drunk several glasses of water, but my skin's still hot and my head's still throbbing. Add that to the fact that I spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone with Niqalia (until 1 AM)...and I'm beat. It's 1:28 AM right now, and I'm rapidly losing my concentration, thoughts, and vocabulary. I'm going to bed. Sorry for the short post!
Oh, and Adam reminded me at one point tonight after he read my blog from yesterday that I was mistaken in something I wrote. Apparently, and I didn't realize this before, if you hit a batter, it's not considered a walk. So, yesterday, when I wrote that Adam walked a guy, that was dead wrong. He didn't walk anyone. Instead, it's recorded as HBP, which means Hit By Pitch. Doh!
Sheesh Kendall, what are you new! LOL Love ya kiddo!
