The End Result of Unmet Expectations
When we initially moved out of The Big House, we were under the constraint of what we believed to be a time crunch; our move to Japan was just days away and we needed the most efficient moving solution. PODS was the obvious choice. Fast forward a bit, and as it turns out, we had a little more time than anticipated. We’re still happy with our decision to go this route, but when you’ve forgotten something in your storage unit, retrieving it becomes a bit more... complicated. To access your POD, you actually have to call a day in advance—something I didn’t understand why until I was met with this reality, pictured above.
They have to locate the unit, tetris it out of the warehouse, and then drive it to a parking spot for access. Then, you’re given the address of the facility and they leave it available to you for one day. Not so bad, right? Well, when the facility is more than half hour away, you have all four children in tow, AND you’re under the impression that your key will open the lock but doesn’t...problem. Solution: grind the lock off, of course.
If anything has been the case for us this year, I’d say we’re learning over and over again to be flexible, patient, and content especially when our expectations aren’t met in the ways we anticipate.
And when you’re able to look back and see the work God has done in your unmet expectations, not only do the roots of your faith grow down all the more deep, but they grow in rejoicing.
We’ve gained a whole lot in our unmet expectations.
Certainly more than we deserve.
So, for me to utter even the smallest of grumbles in the midst of all God is doing proves only foolish and lacking in faith—because “We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) His way is not only the best way, but the only way. Might I constantly be dwelling on this great truth!
