The Brush Fire—Turned Field Trip—That Got too Close
The kids all came running in right before lunch time yesterday clamoring over one another to get to say it first that there was smoke outside. Thinking little of it, we continued on with whatever packing we were doing until their outrage necessitated a further inspection on our end. And goodness, they were not exaggerating. For once.

Plumes of smoke billowed up over the tops of the homes in our community, but surely, the fire was far away from us...right?

Wrong.
It originated on the exact opposite side of the turnpike from us and in true brush fire fashion, hopped the road and came right into our community!

Firemen and firetrucks descended upon our entrance, where they were able to quickly tame the flames.

Thankfully, nobody was injured and no homes were (seriously) threatened. But to me, it was a bit too close for comfort. Goodness. We’re sure thankful for our servants in the fire department! 40 acres of land in total burned, but within three hours, they were about to contain and extinguish the fire 100%.

I think it’s officially safe to say that the Conleys are enjoying no dull moments as of late.
