The First Flight with Four
A two and a half hour direct flight turned into a six hour layover-on-the-plane-at-another-airport flight due to a tornado in DC. I brought enough snacks and enough entertainment to make it to five hours, but the kids struggled somewhat patiently through the last hour of our traveling escapade, with Ella Mae finally succumbing to her nap at 6:30PM - only THREE hours later than normal. I’m pretty sure she’s never in her entire life skipped nap time. She wasn’t about to let her streak end. This tired mama was grateful for the timely nap, as she slept completely through exiting the plane (a totally stranger carried her off the plane for me), through baggage claim, through the shuttle bus to the rental car facility, off the shuttle bus, and through the rental car line. Truly a feat of epic proportions for her and I am SO thankful for her inability to keep her eyes opened during all that. A cranky and sleep deprived toddler is maybe the least fun thing around, so good job Ella Mae! Mama loves you :D
We finally made it though! And it actually went far better than anticipated, even considering the travel woes. My kids are great. Sometimes I forget how great they are and yesterday was a sweet reminder. We’re happy to be with Daddy again and are so excited to give him lots of love over the next four days in Washington DC!
