The Matheson Hammock Park
Wary of intense rip tides and dangeous algae blooms, we were warned to steer clear of most Florida beaches. That is, until Mama found this tiny, almost perfect summer oasis. No waves. No algae. No sharks. A few people and some palm trees for shade. Cut off from the ocean by a manmade atoll (an artificial coral reef), this lagoon was just what a beach-brave single mom of three swimmers needed for some Vitamin D, safety, and sanity. My only wish: that the water was as Jolly Rancher blue as the pictures promised. But I’ll take it anyways!! We had such a fun time. The kids absolutely love the sand and trees and rocks and shells and could spend hours upon hours exploring if it weren’t for the harsh sun and unavoidable naps. Until next time!
