The ISR Fishy
She calls the community pool the "park pool," and yesterday, that's where the two Conley girls the and one Conley tum spent two hours of our afternoon. From 11-1, Amelia took two breaks outside of the water, otherwise, she was swimming the ENTIRE rest of the time. She's in fact morphed into a fish. And now, she's the kind of fish that can swim, turn over and float to catch her breath, and then swim again!!! She's been fighting the float part of the sequence for the entire past week at lessons, but yesterday, she got brave and decided it wasn't scary anymore!!! 15 days in and she already could save herself if she had to and I can't even believe it. We are so grateful for ISR and Miss Gina. Thankfully, we still have a couple more weeks of lessons to really polish her skills and I can't wait to see the results! Friends - especially my Florida friends - consider enrolling in an ISR program as soon as possible. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children under 5, and with the overwhelming access to water all around us, there is no better way to protect your children than to give them the life saving ability to float and swim to safety in an emergency situation. And though the cost is steep (it's worth every penny when you consider the alternative), there are scholarships available to those who may need assistance, so don't let the money stand in your way. It literally takes 30 seconds of your child accidentally unattended and unable to swim in the water to change your life forever. So please consider it.
And that's apparently my sales pitch of the day.
I had no idea how much this would impact my life, but after the three weeks we've spent learning from her teacher and reading/hearing of horror stories of baby drowning victims - all too common - I'll proudly shout it from the top of my lungs: FIND A WAY TO TEACH YOUR BABY HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WATER. We found our answer through ISR and highly recommend this program, but if you have another way, awesome. Just make sure your babies know exactly what to do if they find themselves in a body of water without supervision. Please.
