Day One Thousand Two Hundred and Forty-Six

The 37th Week

Oh Baby!!
You're SO close!
Sometimes, I hold my stomach in awe of the fact that you're only just an inch away from me - that I could be holding you in my arms instead of in my womb and you'd be just fine! It's so surreal, and though I'm enjoying these last days alone with Daddy, we're so ready to meet you.

As of this week, you're almost 6 1/2 pounds, 19 inches long, and still moving around like you own the place - which, you do, so feel free to continue your dancing! Mama's gained 20.5 lbs as of Thursday this week, I've experienced more and more Braxton Hicks, and I received the results back from the dreaded Group B Strep test- I'm negative! Yay!! If you could see me now, I'm doing the no-antibiotics-happy-dance! SO relieved!

Ok, so I think you're maybe getting a little bit anxious to come out too. I've noticed over the last few days a surge of contraction-like sensations...different than the Braxton-Hicks. While I'm still experiencing those and quite often now, these new feelings are two-fold: period-like cramps and sharp, knife-like stabbings where your head is. Sometimes they take my breath away. I'm not sure what to make of them, but I can only assume that it's a sign of exciting things to come! Last night, I also felt this sort of dropping sensation - like you literally moved downwards in my womb. I don't think you're done moving down yet, but it was definitely something new that I hadn't experienced before. Don't be dismayed though. I welcome these feelings with great joy and anticipation, and though they might not feel the greatest at the time, they serve a purpose that ultimately brings you to me!!

Oh, and one more thing...well two actually.
Last night, we were so busy with life that I never got to sit down and put my feet up. Bad idea at 37 weeks 6 days pregnant. And so, when I finally changed into my pjs and crawled into bed, I noticed that my ankles had been replaced with the biggest Kendall-cankles I'd ever seen. Like, both sides of each foot looked like they'd been severely traumatized. I was very upset by this - as was Daddy - because we knew we'd overdone our day, but Daddy consoled me saying that by the morning, after some good rest, they'd swell back down. Well, I woke up this morning and...I still had cankles. And as I type this, after another long day, I still have cankles. Turns out Dad was wrong. And this is not good. I've not had any swelling this whole pregnancy and now look what I've done! I'm sorry Sweetheart! This next week, we'll be better to you, I promise. We'll take more breaks and make sure to rest!! Oh, and that alarmingly painful calf-cramp I had in the middle of the night a couple days ago - I'm sorry for that too. I woke up screaming, which probably scared you. It scared Daddy too. We'll get back on track though Baby Girl, and whenever you choose to come, we'll be healthy and rested and ready to sweep you off your feet. You mean the world to us already. And you're worth every bit of bizarre body changes and uncomfortable sensations I could ever experience. Oh Baby Conley Girl, I cannot wait to kiss you!!!

All our love,
Mommy
and
Daddy

  1. I just love keeping up with your pregnancy! If you have any lavender essential oil it really helps with swelling. I've heard that pregnant mommas that rub it on their feet each night see a huge difference!
