The Braxton Realization
It's Week 37 (weeeeeee!) and yesterday, we had another one of our weekly checkups. My uterus is measuring 36.5 cm (we grew a lot these last few days!) and baby's heart rate was bumping at a solid 160 - she was literally exercising when Elizabeth took the measurement! Crazy little lady - she NEVER stops moving and I love it!
So, while Elizabeth was measuring my uterus - after a long conversation about how I didn't think I'd experienced any Braxton-Hicks contractions yet - sure enough, she exclaimed, "You're having one now!" What do you mean, I'm having one now? I don't feel anything!? Aren't they supposed to hurt?! She explained to me that when my tummy gets REALLY hard all over, that's my uterus practicing labor - a Braxton-Hicks contraction. Funny, because all along, whenever my tummy would get really hard like that, I just thought Baby Girl was having another one of her hay days in there, pushing on my stomach like a dog does to it's owner when it's sleeping really hard. I always thought it was so cute when this happened, and so I was shocked when I came to the realization that she wasn't pushing on me at all...especially because I was under the impression that these contractions can be pretty uncomfortable/painful to a lot of women. So yeah, turns out I've been having BH contractions for a while now and never even knew it - and I'm pumped about that! If I had it my way, there would be a correlation between BHs not hurting and having a less-intense labor! Pretty sure that's not how it works though...darnit!
In other news, I can finally park here.
A spot, just for me. I felt like a celebrity. A really large, waddling celebrity...with no red carpet.
