Day One Thousand One Hundred and Eighty-Six

The Home for Christmas

This week in the baseball world, families lives are being completely rearranged.
In the past 24 hours, Adam and I have spent more time on Twitter and Google News than ever before. Our excuse? The Winter Meetings are in full swing and it's all you can do to keep up with the constant changes in team structure. Every December, MLB convenes to take part in what's called the "Rule 5 Draft." It is during this week that also talk trades with other teams, make offers, and then ultimately, make deals. In these deals, players and money are swapped around like properties in Monopoly. We'll take this guy for that guy. Here's some cash too. Players don't get a say - and sometimes, they don't even get a call - before their lives are plucked from one place and planted somewhere else without any warning. And that's that. Goodbye. Hello. Here's your new jersey. Go get 'em! It's what we've all signed up for - yes - but we're human and picking up and moving across the country does come with its struggles. I can't even imagine!! Ah! Thankfully, Adam and I haven't experienced this jersey swap yet...but, just in the past day alone, we've watched names appear on Twitter that we never thought we'd see. And just like that, friends we've made over the years are gone and off to new adventures in stadiums that aren't ours. It's happy. It's sad. It's baseball.

But, at least in this game, winter is our offseason. And that means: no matter what new team claims our rights...we can still spend our Christmas at home - wherever that might be - with the people we love...with the stockings we hung...and the tree we picked out and already decorated. Hallelujah! Thank you baseball gods for at least not messing this part up!
