The DL
It happened.
Yesterday, Adam was placed on the 7-day Disabled List.
Dun dun duuunnn.
For the first time in his entire career, Adam is scheduled to miss a start. Actually, two. Or three? Who knows? Well, not me, that's for sure.
Now, you could choose to slightly freak out like I possibly may have done. Ok, so yeah, I cried a tiny bit. Judge me. Better yet, you could choose to take it in stride, with full confidence that Adam is fine and healthy and not broken goods.
To sum it up:
Adam has tendonitis.
Which is seriously, no big deal. He's had it every year that I've known him and pitches through it every season. This time, though, he's not able to recover completely after his starts. Which means…he's not able to work on the things he needs to be working on between starts. And definitely: he needs to be able to get his work in, between starts. Because shoot, let's be real...we're not trying to stay in AAA forever! We need that slider, baby!
Ok, so yesterday, the Zephyrs sent Adam to the team doctor. Just to be safe. Which I can totally appreciate because that old adage definietly does hold its weight: better safe than sorry. Especially in baseball. So, to the doctor we went! And when he walked in, I couldn't help but laugh - to myself. I'd never seen a doctor bring a baseball into an appointment before! My first thought, "He wants your autograph? Now? Ok..." And then he handed Adam the ball. "Show me how you hold the slider and where your soreness is." Oh. Duh. So, Adam showed him. And they did a bunch of arm movement things and more baseball grips and he left with the good news that his arm is fine, but just needs a bit of rest. Ok then!
So, Adam is taking three days off from throwing. He's got some anti-inflammatories, a topical cream, and at least two missed starts. Including today's. And for all Doctor's wisdom and immediate help, Adam in fact, signed that ball.
