Day Six Hundred and One

The FUNK

I had some on my feet...

And Adam had some on the mound.

So, I got rid of mine. And I'm hoping that after last night's outing, Adam ditched his too. Because this funk is not fun. It doesn't feel good, smell good, look good, or taste good (not that any funk would). My Hubs threw in his sixth game yesterday and suffered a dismal last 1/3 of an inning in the fifth. Up until then, he was doing pretty good, minus a few mistake pitches and several unfortunate soft hits. But that last 1/3 of an inning really stuck the knife in. And then twisted it. He gave up 6 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the fifth. It was terrible. And I cried. A lot. He again was very frustrated. But he's alive. And I'm alive. And the best part is that this game doesn't define who Adam is. It only defines what he does. And that is all. He throws a ball because he's good at it and he loves it, but more than anything, he throws a ball because he has the potential of reaching lives for Jesus through it. We're clinging onto that truth for dear life. And praying that he'd be delivered from this horrible funk he's caught in!! I'm still just as proud of Adam as I've ever been...and maybe even more so. This sort of "suffering" is building his character...building my character too. I sent him this verse last night and I think it made the both of us take a deep breath and smile:

"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."
Romans 5:3-5

Adam and the Suns were scheduled a double header last night in Jackson, Tennessee...BUT, the second game got rained out (thank goodness!!!), so right after their game - which they won - the team got onto the bus and headed home...it only took them THIRTEEN hours to arrive back to Jacksonville (this morning at 10 AM). And yes, that win finally goes toward Adam's record. HE HAS A WIN, guys! His first of the season! If nothing else, that was our little bright spot among the clouds.

His line (I sometimes hate that I started giving his line after each start...uh, this stinks. Oh well..)
