Day Four Hundred and Ninety-Seven

The South Beach Experience

When in Miami...you visit South Beach. On a Saturday. WOW. Most intriguing people-watching experience of my life!

I don't think this photo would have been possible taken a few hours before. We didn't see the beach (and all its visitors) during the daylight, but I can't argue with this view!

My mommy's long-time friends had an extra day in Miami after a week long cruise in the Caribbean. They've now been married 25 years and spent a relaxing vacation celebrating their anniversary! With Washingtonians (haha) so close, we couldn't give up the chance to see some familiar faces and drove down to meet them. We had a sweet, sweet time and were sad to say goodbye. BUT, I did get to send a hug home to my Mommy, so it made up for the quick visit! So much fun!

On Ocean Drive (the street on South Beach pictured above), is the Versace mansion. That's Versace, as in, the designer. I had no idea. Well, we couldn't figure out why so many people were interested in posing in front of his home? Come to find out that in almost the exact place we're standing, Versace was shot in the back of the head by his ex-lover. 10-something years ago. Uh? What?! And here I was the whole time assuming that he was still alive. I felt like an idiot.

I would expect nothing less from a South Beach outdoor restaurant. This was taken at 7 PM. And the white-haired girl sitting with teal leggings stood up and flashed the whole crowd her undies. Most bizarre dining experience I've ever witnessed...oh, and worth noting...we were just passer-bys. Unreal.

Since yesterday, I've been trying to wrap my mind around the fact that hopefully I'll get to call Miami home one day. But that's the most oxymoron-type hope I've ever felt. The city will swallow me whole...Lord, please please prepare my heart, soul, mind, and eyes for the day he gets called up!
