Day Four Hundred and Seventy-Five

The Invite

Late last night, Adam received this email...
He is officially invited to the Marlins Big League Spring Training Camp!!

With tears on my face and a smile on his, I leapt into his lap and hugged him big. Then I screamed and cheered. Shouted a few hallelujahs and jumped for joy. Wow! I don't know if I could've been more excited! (He of course looked at me like a deranged crazy person...Adam doesn't show excitement quite like I do. Ha!)

Some details:
Unlike last year, a few things will change because of this invite. First, Adam's report date is three weeks earlier. This is because Major League teams play more games than minor league teams do and also travel farther during spring training. So, Adam needs to be ready sooner than last year, and will therefore (hopefully) be more prepared for the season. Another significant change will be seen in the weight room. For as long as Adam is with the big league group, he will have easier access to the weights - second, of course, to the big leaguers. His experience last year was much different. If at any time a big leaguer was in the weight room, the minor league campers weren't allowed in. Now he will be...which is good news considering that he's still trying to beef those legs up (he's up to 213 pounds right now!). If Adam stays in big league camp long enough (by the end of spring training, only 25 players remain on the roster), he'll be able to actually play with the team! What an honor! Deep breath. Finally, the Marlins spring training complex is made up of 8 fields (or 7?), and last year, Adam played all of his games in the "Quad." This year, if he plays any games with the big league club, he'll instead play in Roger Dean Stadium - the same stadium he pitched in during the second half of the season here in Jupiter. So neat!

The work that Adam pours into this game is admirable. He's honest and passionate and cares deeply for his talent. And now he's beginning to see the fruits of his labor. I'm infinitely proud of my husband and look forward to this new beginning that the Lord has placed in front of us. I'm excited for the games, for the wisdom, and the coaching he'll receive, but even more, I'm excited for the people we'll meet and the hearts that could be reached.
