The Makeshift TV Viewing
In South Florida, this is how we watch our television. In 85 degree weather, under a shaded overhang, with a ultra-super-handsome man at my side. Splitting headphones, Adam and I enjoyed a nice afternoon in front of our iPad. And I might add that I did like it! But I don't know if I'd prefer it permanently. For now, the Starbucks wi-fi works just fine for our TV needs while we wait on the installation of our cable and internet.
We're currently caught up, really caught up, in a TV show called Breaking Bad. We don't watch much television at all...aside from ESPN, Fox News, and ABC, the TV is never on. But this show. Oh gosh. We really like it. And without internet, we haven't been able to watch it at all since coming to Jupiter - only on road series when we stay in hotels! But because Adam had an afternoon game today, we had more free time to spare. So, we decided to watch an episode. Well, one episode turned into three. And after leaving Starbucks, the suspense was killing us. We made leftovers, did the dishes, got into the truck and drove three blocks away to "borrow" the internet connection from our old apartment. We're currently sitting in our pretend movie theater, watching Breaking Bad Season 4, while I write the blog! It might not be the most comfortable way to watch our show - I like snuggling up to Adam the best - but this works just fine and we don't mind!
Today, I also met with my new "boss" to review a presentation I made for him last night. And he loved what I created! It was such a joy to hear those words come out of his mouth. I had no expectations when I was offered this part-time job, but after showing him my ideas, he was all-in! I'll be designing 1-2 powerpoint presentations per week, on my own time, for as long as he has presentations to give! I am so excited! But not just because of the job, rather, how I got the job...
In November, Adam and I helped serve food to 20,000 people for Thanksgiving with some friends from church. While scooping up mashed potatoes and cleaning buckets, we met a nice Christian man named Bill. He was fun to talk and serve with. But after that night, we never saw him again. Until March, when I ran into him at Gold's Gym. We talked a few times and I learned that he owns a local Subway, and every Tuesday, his Subway puts together hundreds of meals, takes them downtown in the afternoon, and serves the homeless a meal for dinner. I told him that I really wanted to get involved, but soon enough, Adam was sent to Greensboro, and I never got the chance to help, or to even say goodbye.
Fast forward 3 months. Since we don't currently have internet, I went to Starbucks the other day to update all of our accounts with the new address. And, sure enough, out walks Bill. AGAIN! It was unbelievable. Clearly, so much a God-Thing. We got to talking, and boy, I don't think I've ever met a person so willing, so eager, so passionate about telling anyone, shoot, everyone, about the Lord. But in a way that's not pushy, weird, or awkward. He's great! And somehow in our conversation, it came up that he was looking for someone to work part-time from home designing Power Point presentations. I told him that I'd be willing, depending on how Adam felt about it. And the next day...hired! I'm working for Bill's advertising agency now, and so far, I love my job! It's incredible how the Lord works! I'm so in awe right now.
_______________
I got done writing the blog at 11 PM.
It's 1:34 AM and my first 911 call was just dialed an hour ago.
Everyone is fine. Adam is having some sort of allergic reaction, sun stroke, or severe sunburn itch...we're not quite sure. And yes, I freaked out, called 911 and the paramedics came. He's got some Benadryl in him, cortisone cream rubbed on his back, and an oatmeal bath is waiting. I've never ever seen him react in the manner that he did. And I hope I never have to witness that again.
And thank you, Mom, for being my sanity tonight.
