Day Three Hundred and Eight

The Fourth Hammerhead Start

Normally after Adam pitches, he makes his way into the clubhouse to workout, change, and drink a protein shake. After, he usually changes back into his uniform and returns to the field for the rest of the game. Today, however, I looked and looked for him in the dugout, but he was nowhere to be seen. And then, I spotted him…on top of the left field fence line! What? How? Why? So, I did my own little investigation and discovered this:

A scaffolding-type-thing turned bleacher, behind the fence. I’m guessing it’s used for some kind of videotaping, but there was no such taping today. Just Adam. Sitting. Watching. His workout took longer than expected today, and so, instead of dressing back up in his dirty, sweaty uniform, he stayed in his workout clothes and watched the game from a slightly different vantage point.

As my husband’s biggest fan, it was difficult to see him like he was today. Everyone always tells me, “Even the best pitchers lose.” Well, I don’t like that. Not when Adam is concerned.  He threw three tremendous innings this afternoon, but didn’t make it out of the 4th. He started the inning off by walking two men. He retired the next one on a strikeout. But the fourth batter came up and drove in two runs. A few plays later, it was 2-4 and Adam was taken out of the game. I was bummed and I know he was too. I’m a lucky girl though – and yes, I know it – he never brings the game home. So when I saw him after the game, he was back to his usual charming and wonderful self. A little itchy still though. Haha : ) His line looked like this tonight:
3 1/3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4ER, 2 BB, 4 K and now has a 3.9 ERA.

Meet the Lanes. We’re outrageously blessed to have such precious people in our life. God’s work is so visible right now. There are seasons in life that maybe He doesn’t seem close enough. But currently, we feel His hand everywhere we go. Chris Lane is the chaplain of the Miami Marlins. Every Sunday, he leads the big leaguer’s “chapel,” which is a sort of church service that every player is invited to attend. He also leads a Bible study for the men. Wendy Lane, sweet Wendy, does the same for the wives of the Marlins. During Spring Training this year, we were each invited to our own separate Bible study group, and naturally, became friends with each of these two beautiful leaders and friends. Tonight, they came to watch Adam’s game, and I enjoyed every moment with them and their 4 little boys. I am so grateful for marriages like theirs and pray that one day, Adam and I can be as good of an example and blessing to others as they’ve been to us.
