The Rain Delay
I'm exhausted. Adam is too. We'll keep it short and sweet tonight because this evening was much too long. Actually, the entire day was. And no, I'm not complaining. Normally, Adam is required to arrive at the field two hours before the game, on days that he starts. Today, the team hosted a Meet and Greet for disabled children. They played catch with the young kids and had a wonderful time. But he had to be at the field at 12:45. We didn't wake up until 11:30.
Looming above the field, teasing us for three short innings, was a massively gray rain and thunder storm. Adam had a great game going by the time it came crashing down: 0 hits, 2 BB, 1 K. A no-hitter through the third. It was going to be a good day for him...
Instead, the ground crew pulled out the tarp, and there it sat, drenched in inches of rainfall, for TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN minutes. When the game resumed, Adam wasn't pitching anymore, so I stood there and waited all that time for, well...a Grasshopper win, of course! In TWO HOURS AND NINETEEN minutes, the 9 inning game finished in a 3-2 victory. Yes, the length of the rain delay was 4 minutes short of the length of the game. Guh! By the time we said goodnight to the field, it was 12:05. Shoot me. (Ok, actually, please don't).
It's 1:39 AM now, and Adam is one tired boy. He looked great tonight, and it's a bummer we didn't get to see the game unfold with him on the mound. But as Adam says, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains."
My sweet Aunt Karen sent Adam and I some homemade jelly all the way from Oly! She learned about Adam's PB&Js a few blogs back, and decided that we needed the good stuff. And, boy, was she right. This stuff is outrageous. LOVE it! Mmmmm. So good. Bad news, though: one of the jars suffered a fatality during shipment. No, there was no funeral. Just sadness.
THANK YOU KAREN!!
And, so what if I have 2 gallons of strawberries in my fridge?! They only fill up half of the bottom rack! 8 freezer bags. Yes, 8. Gosh I love strawberries. (If anyone has some good recipes I can make in a day, let me know SOON! Otherwise, they're going in the freezer for my protein shakes!).
Sheila (my sweet friend from the ball park) found out how much I love the scrumptious fruit, and decided that I needed some fresh from the farm. She was right. I've been munching on them all day. And still, I haven't made a dent in the bags. So good. Love them (and her)!
THANK YOU SHEILA!
