The WAGS
Well, technically, WAGS isn't quite appropriate. Wives And GirlfriendS is a term I ran across while perusing a few baseball blogs on the internet a couple months back. Gosh, I must sound like some sort of obsessive, cleat-chasing stalker! But I had to know what being a woman in professional baseball looked like, so naturally, I googled it. The acronym stuck. However, I always struggled with where the Fiances fit in. Surely, they deserve a spot in the abbreviation? If not, then do Addi and Alora not count? A new acronym must be created. Because these two fiances definitely count.
It doesn't happen often that the minor leagues see a team of genuinely good guys. The horror stories of the minors are infamous for a reason. But as much as I've heard, these boys have bonded quickly and easily. It's no wonder. Half of them (or more) have serious girlfriends or fiances. And ONE has a wife (me!). It's an anomaly that I wasn't prepared for, but gosh, I am so very thankful for it! I've already met five women, three of which are engaged. And one's Charlie's (our roommate) girl. Her name is Addi, and I've come to know her as my P90X partner who will also, one day, become my personal shopper and stylist! Haha. She's gifted with a keen eye to fashion, and has the opposite problem I face: she can't resist buying clothes and I can't be forced to buy them. I think we'll even each other out nicely this summer! Before the boys left for the field, Adam more or less begged Addi to take me shopping. Charlie told Addi, "Don't go spending all my money," and Adam, as if on cue, added on, "Addi, please make her spend my money!" Hahahaha. It's true, I do shy away from anything but food shopping, but I've come to realize that the ONE suitcase I brought with me from Washington just isn't going to cut it. So naturally, Addi and I went out for a bit of mid-afternoon shopping, and I did get a few things. Gosh.
Later, we met Alora at the field and enjoyed ourselves a mini girl's night. Both of them are leaving tomorrow, and then it's back to the solo-wife-life for a few weeks before they come back again to visit. I'm excited to "grow up" through the system with this bunch of sweet girls, and imagine that we'll remain friends for a very long time. It's been told to me that the women become your backbone during the season; that I'll end up seeing them more than I will Adam. And although it terrifies me knowing he'll be gone so often, I'm comforted by the fact that these ladies are wonderful. And I'd be happy to spend my time with them.
