Day Two Hundred and Thirty

The SFCC Softball Stud

Turns out, Adam's not the only one who can play ball in this family! In 4 years, I've yet to see my youngest sister play the sport she loves. But today, all that changed when Shelby and I made the three hour drive to Walla Walla, for five innings of collegiate softball. Holy stud. She's a left-handed catcher - a rare breed - with a gunslinger for an arm. This girl can throw down like nobody's business. The only problem: nobody seems to be able to receive her heat! Three times today, she attempted to pick off a baserunner, and every time, the perfect throw was made. But every time, the ball was dropped. Boo. Somebody give me a uniform...I'll make sure her stats stand corrected!!

In two at-bats, I caught a glimpse of her power. She can smack the ball. Hard. Maybe she should take my place in the bet between Adam and I?! Yeah?! ;) She was 0 for 2 today, with one strikeout (hey, it happens), and one deep fly ball to right field. Still, I was quite impressed. She's a talented young woman with unbridled potential. Like Adam, she works diligently and aggressively towards her goals, and one day, I wouldn't be surprised if I got a call from Morgan telling me that she got picked up by a Division I, 4-year school. I'm so proud of her.

To make this day even more special, Grandma, Grandpa, and Lisa showed up! Morgan had the biggest fan club at the game!! That's what I'm talking about! (Grandma and Grandpa are Adam's mother's parents. Lisa is Adam's mother's sister). It wasn't too long into the trip that I realized, suddenly, the three of them live in Walla Walla! Perfect! It was such a pleasure to spend some time with them today. And I knew they'd be excited for another day at the field - not only does their grandson play ball, but Lisa's daughter does too! Maddie is a junior in high school, a catcher, and a stud just like her cousin. I guess it just runs in the family?! I'm ok with that!

And get this: Grandma and Grandpa are celebrating their FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY in just a few short months. No fair! That's just about my only goal in this life, and darnit, they've almost made it! I'm sincerely jealous. I feel like if you can commit to something that long, you're doing a lot of things right. And that, they truly are. I admire their relationship immensely, and pray every day that the Lord would protect our marriage through the years and years of life. They're the sweetest couple I know, and such a joy to be around. And, to make it even more adorable, they each have a bit of added "spice" too. Tonight, just before Grandpa got to the field, he was pulled over. 40 in a 30. Lead foot. But he's far too handsome to get a ticket, so the officer politely asked him to slow down and sent him merrily on his way. Love it.
(Check out his hat too. Favorite.)

It wasn't 9:30 until Shelby and I left Walla Walla. And the three hour drive was staring us devilishly in the face. Not to worry, Shelby pulled out all the stops. 90s music. Blasting. Who needs coffee, anyways? When you have one of your best friends sitting next to you, dancing like an idiot, and screaming Spice Girls songs at the top of your lungs, nothing can get in the way. Love her. And, just like Grandpa, my foot was feeling a bit heavy tonight too. Yes, Mom, I sped in your car. (Hey, at least I'm not lying)! Turns out that the Mini Cooper is more similar to a racecar than the Raptor. And it makes those sharp turns much easier too.  Thank you Mommy, for letting me drive your car! What a GREAT night!

Ohhhhh!!!! Adam throws tomorrow at 7 PM EST. If you'd like to listen, go to:
And cheer like crazy please!

I LOVE YOU, ADAM.
