The Pit Stop (Final Destination: Big Leagues)
You know it's going to be a good day when your first human interaction is with the folks of Invisible Children. I went to get my early morning wake up call, some might call it Starbucks, and there they were, sitting in the parking lot. Naturally, I needed a picture. They're the non-profit organization who brought the world's attention to Kony 2012 and the abducted child soldiers of Central Africa. Awesome stuff they're doing.
So, I drove from Jupiter, Florida to Greensboro, North Carolina today. It was a 12 hour trip and my first ever towing a trailer, or anything for that matter. All for the best mattress in the world! Our new apartment (well, technically it's old, but who's keeping track?!) is furnished, but there was no way Adam and I were going to leave our bed in storage. And I'm glad we made the decision! It wasn't even that hard of a drive! Psh. Adam was all worked up over me driving that thing for nothing! I did great! There were a few TINY problems:
1) About 10 minutes into the drive, I noticed a man frantically waving me down from his truck. He brought my attention to the fact that you're supposed to CLOSE the Uhaul door before driving it. Who'da thought? Yes, I left the door half-way open and didn't even realize it. Goodness gracious.
2) The lady at Starbucks informed me that my credit card was declined when I tried to buy my coffee this morning at 7:15. My chin dropped. I have to drive 12 hours today without a credit card? What? Where's my money? I panicked. She then smiled at me and kindly said, "April Fools." Goodness gracious.
3) I-95 turns into a 2 lane road once you get into South Carolina. And people don't like that. People also tend to lose their driving skills when this happens. I've never seen anything like it. Three times today, I had to literally SLAM on my breaks, from 70 to 35 MPH, without any reason other than the fact that someone changed lanes. No heads up. No blinker. One second you're going 70, the next millisecond, 35. With a trailer in tow. Good thing we have new tires and breaks. Gah! My heart was in my throat the entire time I was in SC. Goodness gracious.
Driving and taking pictures is a skill that only a few have. I happen to be one of them. Haha. North Carolina is a whole lot different than Florida, but we're so blessed to be here. We can't wait to see what the Lord has planned for us, and excited to play some ball! Thank you, everyone, for all the texts and prayers today. It means a lot.
