Day One Hundred and Eighty-Two

The Sixth Month

SIX MONTHS!! WAHOO! Life as a Conley is so, so good.

It was 6:30 when we decided to take a walk. The rain had just passed and the sky was a bright blue. Before we bought the truck, these walks were almost a daily thing, but since, they've become few and far between. So, we decided to change that today and headed out on a miniature adventure. It brought us to Publix (the Florida version of Safeway), where we rented The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo. But that's not the cool part. Even though it was a good movie (although the title leaves us a bit baffled). Instead, we really got a chance to appreciate the life around us. Florida is so different from Washington, and it still hasn't sunk in that we actually live here. The honeymoon vacation certainly doesn't feel like it's ended yet, and we're determined to keep it that way. Every day, we see something that keeps the wonder alive. Today, it was round-abouts and mini swamp lakes. The intersections in this town are outrageous; they're probably double the size of any in Washington and have TWO sets of street lights per intersection. So, when you're sitting at a light, there's one directly above you and another about 70 feet beyond it. And the round-abouts? They're no different. Gigantic, never-ending circles make up a decent amount of the intersections within a 2-mile radius of our home. Confusion is a direct cause of them, and with insane drivers behind almost every wheel here, I'm surprised that we haven't seen an accident yet. *Knock on wood.* And you can forget about your safety when walking through one of these things; cars will not stop for you. But aside from the negative vibes that surrounds them, I like the big concrete circles. They're different, and pretty too. In the center of each of these massive things is a miniature forest, filled with all sorts of interesting wildlife. They have no sidewalks, and therefore no pedestrians, so it's almost like it's own little oasis. And that makes me smile. Another interesting feature of Jupiter scenery is found next to almost any road: little, pocket-sized lakes. Each of these pools of water come complete with a fountain or two, a couple ducks, and fishermen. I haven't researched them, but I'm assuming they're probably some sort of rain run-off solution for the inches upon inches that we get during the year. They're everywhere down here, and I really enjoy the scene they create. So beautiful. Today, a fisherman was standing on the banks (he's cropped out), but I'm not so sure I'd be the one to eat that fish for dinner. Hopefully he realizes that the ocean is only 4 miles away and the stuff in there probably tastes a lot better than the stagnant-rain-water-pond fish he caught. Yuck. And finally, probably the coolest, sweetest, most beautiful thing in Florida is that man standing next to me. Gosh, he is handsome. I think I might just be the luckiest girl on the planet.

And before I forget: another Adam-update. He threw his second live Batting Practice today. Although it didn't go quite as well as the first one, he said his stuff was sharp but a little lower than usual. This actually, as he explained, is a good thing, and with his second broken bat of the year, I wouldn't be the one to argue! His arm is overcoming dead arm and in a few days (I think the 14th), he should be ready to pitch in his first Spring Training game! I'm so proud of him!
